#PeaceCon2024, co-hosted by Alliance for Peacebuilding and United States Institute of Peace, is just around the corner! 🌎 The Charity & Security Network and Chemonics UK are inviting the global peacebuilding community to engage in a critical conversation about the urgent need for security policy alternatives rooted in feminist peace principles. 🔻 We’re excited to be hosting a session at this year’s conference titled Reframing and Reclaiming: Learning from Feminist Civil Society to Revamp the WPS Agenda. Led by peacebuilding and policy experts from across various regions, this session will foster a diverse and open discussion on how stakeholders worldwide can collaborate to reimagine security approaches. By implementing feminist peace principles, we aim to reduce the violence often associated with hard-security responses and build sustainable peace and conflict prevention strategies. We are honoured to be joined by Sana'a T. Qasmieh, a recognized WPS accountability champion in Jordan and Team Lead for the Tamasok (WPS Systems Strengthening) programme at Chemonics UK. 📌Join us on September 11th from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. during the Digital Lunch session. 📩 Learn more and register here: https://lnkd.in/eMz7HMkV

Today, Ukraine celebrates its 33rd Independence Day. We want to share a story of resilience and hope from the students and teachers at Karazin Kharkiv National University, a symbol of development, youth, and the future of an independent Ukraine. Karazin University has endured constant shelling from the Russian aggressor, suffering severe damage. Yet, the spirit of the university remains unbroken. Thanks to the support from the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU) the university has been able to replace its shattered windows. “When we change the windows, we show that life goes on. We show that we need light inside us. It is impossible to stop life, education, and science," says Tetiana Kaganovska, Rector of Karazin Kharkiv National University. #Ukraine #IndependenceDay #MakeNoiseForUkraine

On this World Humanitarian Day, Chemonics UK honours the courageous civilians and humanitarians across the globe who improve lives affected by war, despite the violations of international laws that regulate the conduct of armed conflict. This year’s United Nations campaign urges global leaders and conflicting parties to #ActforHumanity and safeguard civilians and humanitarians in conflict zones. A year has passed since a Russian missile hit the centre of #Chernihiv, impacting the Chernihiv Drama Theatre and the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University (only some 45 miles from the border with Russia). Amid an escalation of attacks on critical urban infrastructure, frontline gains by Russia, and Ukrainians’ recognition of a more enduring conflict, this missile explosion exemplifies how civilians are continuously being subjected to assaults prohibited under International Humanitarian Law. The support to frontline communities, especially those heavily impacted by constant shelling and airstrikes, is a core focus of the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU). Through restoration activities that included the replacement of broken windows, doors, and construction work to prevent further damage of the structure, PFRU contributed alongside the Ukraine Art Aid Centre (funded by Germany), Expertise France, and the local government, in the civilian-led reconstruction process at the Chernihiv Drama Theatre. The collective effort is a testimony of how communities are confronting the normalisation of attacks against them, in a context where they have stepped up to #ActforHumanity and take reparation actions into their own hands. Despite the deterioration in the security environment, PFRU remains committed to its mission of recovery and rebuilding. Over the course of the full-scale invasion, PFRU has spearheaded 84 vital projects in Chernihiv Oblast, focusing on restoring essential infrastructure and supporting community resilience. The projects include revitalised schools, kindergartens, administrative buildings like the Chernihiv Military Administration and City Council, cultural institutions, hospitals, and the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, among others. As we reflect on #WorldHumanitarianDay, we exalt how the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine has taken action to protect and support civilians, and the resilience and unity of frontline communities in resisting ruthless aggressions. Nearly two years after Ukrainian armed forces liberated much of #Mykolaiv oblast and the city of #Kherson, and a little over a year after Russian forces destroyed the #Kakhovka dam, the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU) supported a high-level visit of its financing partners to the region. PFRU has been supporting the recovery of liberated communities by restoring critical infrastructure, improving access to and provision of key administrative and social services, and strengthening civil society organisations' capacity and involvement in local decision-making processes.
