🔈 It has been announced today Bhavini ‘Bev’ Shah, co-CEO of City Hive, has been appointed to the Sustainability Board at Square Mile Investment Consulting & Research Limited. The newly created board will provide independent oversight to advise and challenge Square Mile on all issues related to sustainability, as well as providing strategic guidance, monitoring sustainability performance and highlighting areas for improvement, enhancing accountability for its sustainability commitments, engaging with stakeholders and clients, and managing risk. Bev will be joined by Neville White and Alan Whittle MSc FPFS, and three internal members Diane Earnshaw, Jake Moeller and Scott Dakers. Square Mile CEO Richard Romer-Lee commented: “We recognise the importance of independent, external governance to remove any element of subjectivity. "We all have a part to play but as consumers and investors, our actions and choices play a crucial role in fostering a fair and ethical marketplace. "We need to consider labour laws and how we treat our workers as part of the Just Transition. It’s often unclear what steps we can take, but as shareholders, we can challenge companies like supermarkets on their efforts to ensure ethical labour practices for the food on their shelves." City Hive's co-CEO Bhavini ‘Bev’ Shah wrote this piece for Portfolio Adviser on the 'Just Transition' and lives of vulnerable migrant workers who leave their homes to help UK farmers harvest crops due to a shortage of local labour. She shared her experience visiting a strawberry farm that makes use of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' UK Seasonal Workers Scheme, as organised by CCLA Investment Management. 📺 Video We recently asked investment industry representatives: where are you seeing progress on culture? They emphasised there is gradual change with more questions now being asked around a firm’s culture by candidates in the interviewing process as they want reassurance their voices will be heard. Similarly, in fund analysis, an internal focus on values and commitments and transparency around a company’s culture can be a key differentiator and be a decider on where an allocation is placed. Check out the comments from Dewi John, Jasmine Miller and Simon Evan-Cook in this video. #InvestorsACT https://lnkd.in/eaghgSvH

“Professional investors with influence in the boardroom, regardless of being passive or active, should be monitoring that labour laws are complied with, that workers are treated fairly, and should be also ensuring the business is accountable for the right costs of doing business. “Investors need to know the right questions to ask to understand the nuances of social issues. Otherwise, they are failing to analyse these sufficiently.” City Hive's co-CEO Bhavini ‘Bev’ Shah spoke to PA Future about the importance of investors understanding the influence they have on social issues. #EqualPay #WorkerRights Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/ewjkPXS4
