That’s correct, we’re thrilled to share that for a 2nd year in a row, we’ve been named a Which? Recommended Provider for Small Hotel Chains! In the ever-evolving hospitality landscape, securing such recognition for our commitment to providing first-class hospitality, and guest satisfaction is of utmost importance. We’re delighted that one year on, we’re still delivering for our guests. Chief Operating Officer, Adam Charity was particularly delighted to again be named as a Which? Recommended Provider. He remarked, “It was a moment of validation and pride for everyone involved at The Coaching Inn Group last year, so to repeat this achievement is a testament to the exceptional commitment & hard work that our fantastic teams deliver for our guests. We’ve always believed in putting our guests first, and we’re thrilled this is being recognised.” Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/g3PUmAHP

Inntroducing…Mat Charity! Mat is Commercial & IT Director at The Coaching Inn Group. Alongside his brother Adam, Mat has worn many hats since being initiated into the family business by co-founder & father; Kevin Charity - sometimes you have no choice in the formative years! Read on below to find out more about Mat. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 & 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩? In 2002, when I was 13, one of our first pubs was short of a Kitchen Porter. My Dad informed me I was starting that day washing dishes! It wasn’t quite the Man United call-up I was hoping for. The contract wasn’t £100k a week either, it was a packet of Cheese & Onion crisps! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭? The easy answer would be to say all of them, but I’m not about to sit on the fence. I would have to say it’s the White Hart Royal, Moreton In Marsh. I worked there on a couple of occasions; it always has a good vibe and feel to it. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? Trying to explain to people that no, I do not control the weather, the traffic, or their personal WiFi signal! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? Seeing happy people, offering a smooth service, and knowing that I helped make someone’s day better… and if I get a free biscuit out of it too, that’s just a bonus. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞? Surviving long enough to answer this question! In all seriousness, it would be learning to be a father. It’s hard, but the personal pride, and achievement of seeing your children grow and develop is amazing. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝? Relax, it all works itself out in the end.

Inntroducing...Clare Gribbon! Clare is part of our fantastic People Team. You can usually find Clare working from one of her many offices—our hotels & inns! She enjoys being on the ground & seeing how everyone is doing! 𝐇𝐨𝐰 & 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩? I joined 3 years ago as a People Business Partner, just as we went on the acquisition trail, when we grew from 18 to 32 hotels in about 18 months. It was busy, and I saw parts of the UK I’d never been to before! But really exciting and great to take on new hotels. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭? Really tough one—so many beautiful hotels and so many great teams, but I do have a secret favourite if pushed: The Talbot at Malton. It's just like a warm hug when you enter that hotel, beautiful but comfortable surroundings and just a feeling of being able to relax. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? Recruitment and retention of teams—finding the right people and then keeping them, my motto being, “All’s fair in love and recruitment!”! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? The people—well, I would say that, wouldn’t I! Seeing people develop and grow in confidence in their roles, seeing internal progression, sometimes it’s just the interaction with the teams on a daily basis—they never fail to give a genuine welcome. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞? On a personal level, it was receiving an award for Support Person of the Year—that meant a lot to me; on a wider scale, it’s seeing those hotels we purchased become part of the CIG group and seeing the company culture start to grow in those sites. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝? “You’re not a miracle worker, Clare!” - Sometimes you just have to admit we got something wrong and then learn from it for the future!

Well, this was a lovely surprise! We're honoured to be finalists in two categories at the 2025 The Morning Advertiser Publican Awards, alongside some fantastic operators in the hospitality industry. We've been shortlisted for 'Best Accommodation Operator', and also 'Best Pub Employer (501+ employees)'. Great to see St Austell Brewery nominated for Best Brewing Pub Company too, they brew our popular 'Coachman's Wheel' Best Bitter! Well done also to Ossett Brewery, who have some fantastic beers like Yorkshire Blonde, White Rat & Silver King that are stocked on rotation at The Old Bridge, Holmfirth. A massive well done, and good luck to everyone. We'll see you in March!

The Coaching Inn Group Year In Review 2024! 📆 We're not ones to rest on our laurels, this year we've been at our busiest! Both in our hotels, and behind the scenes, we've been committed to doing more for our guests, and our amazing teams. Some notable moments from this year include being named a Which? Recommended Provider for the 2nd successive year, our continued work with the likes of Hospitality Action, along with other charities & causes, and our popular 'Kids Eat Free' campaigns. Thank you to everyone that is part of The Coaching Inn Group's extended family for helping us make The Coaching Inn Group what it is. From partnering with TiPJAR® to amazing cheeses from Cryer & Stott Cheesemongers Ltd, and Wireless Social inviting us to Hospitality Kicks every year to have a kickabout for worthy causes. (just don't ask about the injuries!) There are so many businesses that contribute to our continued success, and we can't wait to work with you all again next year.
