The Cochrane Navarre Associate Centre is at the forefront of advancing evidence-based healthcare in Spain. 💪 Established in 2015, this Centre is a cornerstone in the region, driven by a formal agreement between the Health Department of the Government of Navarre and Iberoamerican Cochrane Center. 🎤 Juan Erviti, Director of the Navarre Associate Centre, highlights the Centre's commitment to rigorous research and knowledge translation: "Our work is deeply rooted in the belief that healthcare decisions should be guided by the best available evidence. By providing training on systematic reviews, GRADE, and critical appraisal, we empower healthcare professionals across Spain to make informed decisions that ultimately improve patient outcomes." 🌍 The Centre plays a vital role within the newly formed Cochrane Heart, Stroke, and Circulation thematic group and the Spanish network for the Improvement of the Appropriateness of Clinical Practice (MAPAC). Their work directly influences clinical guidelines and legally binding resolutions in Navarre, ensuring evidence-based practice across the healthcare system. 🎤 Luis Carlos Saiz, Managing Editor of the Spanish satellite of the Cochrane Hypertension Group, underscores the importance of collaboration in amplifying the Centre’s impact: "Our involvement in networks like MAPAC and the Spanish Medicines Agency’s BIFAP database allows us to work closely with clinicians and researchers, ensuring that our evidence synthesis work is directly applicable to clinical practice. These collaborations are crucial in driving improvements in healthcare delivery." 🤝 The Navarre Associate Centre welcomes collaboration and is eager to expand its network. They invite healthcare professionals and researchers to join them in their mission to enhance evidence-based healthcare! 📖 Read more about their impactful work and how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/eVmEeUf6 #CochraneIberoamérica #EvidenceBasedHealthcare

Both Cochrane and the Global Evidence Summit are committed to inclusivity and global partnership, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries #LMIC. We spoke with Sabrina Khamissa to uncover insights, behind-the-sense information, and updates about the event. 🎤 "GES organizers and the partners involved truly feel that the efforts extend far beyond the confines of a GES single event. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among diverse people, we lay the foundation for sustainable partnerships that transcend geographical boundaries. Ultimately, we aim to empower attendees to take ownership of evidence-based practices, driving positive health outcomes and equity on a global scale." 🤝 We'd like to warmly thank TDR and European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership for sponsoring people from LMICs who may not have otherwise been able to attend #GES2024 🙌 Read the full interview here: ⬇ https://lnkd.in/gC56N8-k

Daily oral iron supplementation during #pregnancy 📚 🔍 This #SystematicReview included the evidence from 57 trials involving 48,971. Key messages 👍 Women taking daily iron supplements may have reduced #anaemia and iron deficiency when they give birth around their due date, compared with placebo or no iron. 🤷♀️ From the evidence in this review, we are less certain about the impact of iron supplements on other outcomes for the woman and her baby. 🎤 "Iron supplementation during pregnancy may be considered as a preventive strategy to reduce maternal anaemia and iron deficiency at term. The magnitude of the effect may vary depending on the background risk of maternal and infant health outcomes. In order to improve the success of iron supplementation as a #PublicHealth intervention, it is important to consider accessibility to supplementation and adherence." 🤓 Read the full #CochraneReview and #PlainLanguage summary in the#CochraneLibrary https://lnkd.in/gGFpkSd5 Finkelstein JL, Cuthbert A, Weeks J, Venkatramanan S, Larvie DY, De-Regil LM, Garcia-Casal MN. JUST PUBLISHED - Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors for premenstrual syndrome #PMS and premenstrual dysphoric disorder 💊 What are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors? They are a type of medicine that inhibit the absorption of serotonin, a naturally occurring chemical that acts as a messenger between brain cells. Changing the balance of serotonin appears to enhance mood. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are most commonly used to treat depression and anxiety. 📚 🔍 This #SystematicReview included evidence from 34 studies (RCTs) with 4563 women diagnosed with severe premenstrual syndrome or premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Key messages – Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors treatment probably reduces a woman's rating of premenstrual symptoms and may be more effective when administered continuously than when administered only in the luteal phase (the second part of a menstrual cycle, around day 15 of a 28-day cycle). – Unwanted effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment are probably common; with feeling sick, a lack of energy and having a strong desire to sleep being most often reported. 🚩 We are only moderately confident in the evidence because there was poor reporting of methods in the included studies. In addition, more than two‐thirds of the included studies were funded by pharmaceutical companies, which may mean that the effects look more favourable towards the medicine of the sponsor. This means that results must be interpreted with caution, and further studies are needed to confirm the findings. Jespersen C, Lauritsen MP, Frokjaer VG, Schroll JB.
