Made from girders! It's great to be back. We’re excited to kick off another project with AG Barr Group. Coinciding with AG Barr’s recent announcement of 5% growth, we have arrived on site in Cumbernauld, starting the Canning Line Extension Works. Being trusted again by such a highly regarded brand, as they continue to invest more in this successful facility, is a proud moment for the team. (If you squint, you might catch Contracts Manager Roy Raby and Project Manager Angus Souter on-site as we get underway). While we tendered for this project in competition, we believe the strength of our relationship, proven results, and consistent delivery played a part in us securing this project. What’s the secret to maintaining strong client relationships? For us, it’s simple: strive to deliver beyond what’s expected - every time. We’ll update you more along the way.

The biggest challenge in construction? It’s not always what you’d expect. Over the years, I’ve learned that managing construction in live environments requires more than technical expertise. And that goes for anything from a whisky distillery to a listed building. It’s about solving problems before they happen. Take distilleries, for example. These are operational facilities where downtime often isn’t an option. Every decision has to balance precision and efficiency without disrupting production. Or listed buildings. You’re restoring structures while preserving history. That means navigating restrictions, working with delicate materials, and collaborating with specialists to get it right. Here’s what helps overcome these challenges: 1. Detailed planning: You need a clear roadmap but the flexibility to adapt when the unexpected happens. 2. Communication: When teams, clients, and specialists are aligned, issues are resolved faster. 3. Commitment to quality: Cutting corners isn’t an option. Every detail matters. The goal at Colorado Construction is always the same: To ensure we are 'Building Excellence, Creating Legacy'. What’s your tip(s) for overcoming project challenges?

When the storm hits… Preparation makes all the difference. Storm Éowyn reminds us how unpredictable/dangerous the weather can be in Scotland. When something like that hits, our priority at Colorado Construction is to ensure safety, minimise disruption, and keep projects on track. Here’s how we handle it: 1. Securing every site Our teams act quickly to secure materials, structures, and equipment, ensuring everything is safe from high winds and heavy rain. Safety is always the priority - for people and the environment around our projects. 2. Planning for the unexpected We react to storms but prepare for what comes after - assessing any damage, adjusting schedules, and keeping clients informed. 3. Staying connected With remote working much easier nowadays, our team stays connected and productive, no matter the weather. Communication doesn’t stop, and collaboration continues. Challenges like Storm Éowyn show the importance of being proactive, adaptable, and safety-focused. How does your business handle unexpected challenges? P.S. WFH means I can collaborate with Mollie. Although she might not be as pleased as I am. Stay safe!

Building more than structures. Because every project is a legacy. Whether we’re restoring listed buildings or constructing whisky distilleries, our focus is the same: Get it right and make it last. At Colorado Construction, we’ve grown by staying true to those principles. However, growth also means expanding how we connect with others. I’ll admit, at first, I didn’t see the value in LinkedIn. Now I understand it’s a tool to: -Share lessons learned in the field. -Celebrate the achievements of your team. -Connect with leaders and potential collaborators. Our work will always be rooted in expertise and relationships. Sharing our journey means more people can appreciate the craftsmanship and dedication behind it. It comes back to the Colorado mantra: “Building Excellence, Creating Legacy.” Are you sharing your story? P.S. That's Teal smiling for the camera!

The key to retaining staff? It’s not a secret. At Colorado Construction, we’re proud of our low staff turnover. From day one, we wanted to be a company with a genuinely open-door policy - and mean it. You can’t build a strong team solely by how much you pay. And you can’t be fully up to speed with what’s happening across the business unless people feel at ease speaking about what is happening. (Not only the good but, more importantly, where problems may be brewing). It’s far easier to solve an issue in its infancy. This needs open discussion across the team. It’s built on trust, respect, and open conversations. It’s easy to say that in theory, but it needs to be felt in practice. It needs to be lived, day to day. Whether it’s discussing a challenge, sharing feedback, or simply chatting over coffee, we want our team to know they’re heard. When people feel supported, they don’t just stay with you - they grow. And when your people grow, your business grows, too. We believe that’s how you build something that lasts. How do you support growth in your team?

Preserving the past. And building for the future. We’ve been working with St Andrews Preservation Trust on the restoration and upgrade of the St Andrews Heritage Museum & Gardens. This incredible project, part of a broader upgrade programme, kicked off in October 2024 and is due for completion in July 2025. The latest milestone is the steel frame for the new exhibition space, which is now up. It’s a key step in preserving the heritage of this iconic site while creating something new for future generations. A huge thanks to our team: -Site Manager: Denis Kilcullen -Quantity Surveyor: David Innes Head to the last picture to see what the proposed new exhibition space will look like.

Old school values. New school tools. I’ll admit it - LinkedIn and social selling don't sit naturally with me. I firmly believe in the power of face-to-face meetings, a proper phone call, and keeping in touch with people the way we’ve always done. But times change. And so do the ways we connect. As Dario Valente keeps reminding me, social selling is integral to today’s world. It’s not about replacing tried-and-tested methods. It’s adding another string to your bow - building relationships, having conversations, and staying visible where your clients and partners are. I've seen how the community in our Colorado Construction LinkedIn page has grown. And also the connections and support Mark Hamilton MCIOB has established for the West Lothian Construction Forum. So, here I am, taking a foray into this space. While keeping my old-school principles close. A quick thank you to everyone who’s supported us worked with us, or met with me in 2024. Those relationships matter—no matter how we build or maintain them. I’d love to know how you balance traditional communication with modern tools like social selling. Maybe we can learn from each other.
