A key area of discussion at the #SummitoftheFuture is 'Transforming global governance and turbocharging the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development'. The world is rallying around the urgent need to strengthen global governance to meet the challenges of our time. This summit marks a decisive moment for reimagining how nations, cities, and communities work together to implement the 2030 Agenda for #sustainable #development. UN-Habitat is at the forefront of these discussions, advocating for transformative changes that will turbocharge the implementation of the #SDGs. Key Areas of Action: 🔵Strengthening Multilateralism for Urban Progress: At the heart of the summit's agenda is the renewal of international cooperation. The global urban population continues to grow, and cities face unique challenges that require tailored solutions. Strengthening multilateralism will enhance the ability of nations and cities to share knowledge, resources, and strategies for sustainable #urbanization. 🔵Empowering Local Leadership: The future of sustainable development is local. At the summit, UN-Habitat will champion the role of #cities and local governments as key drivers of change. By decentralizing power, providing resources, and promoting governance that is responsive to urban realities, we can create a global movement of empowered local leaders. 🔵Inclusive Stakeholder Engagement: The summit emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in decision-making processes. To leave no one behind, civil society, private sector actors, and marginalized communities must have a seat at the table. Their perspectives will help design a governance system that is transparent, #resilient, and people-centered. 🔵Innovative Financing for Sustainable Urbanization: The Summit of the Future will explore innovative financing mechanisms and partnerships that will unlock the resources needed to fast-track SDG implementation. Public-private collaborations and sustainable investment initiatives are crucial for scaling up urban projects that directly contribute to the #2030Agenda. #OurCommonFuture

Today, we had the privilege of bringing together distinguished leaders, governments, and local communities to discuss the importance of localization in advancing the 2030 Agenda. As we near 2030, the need for urgent and collaborative action has never been more critical. Key Takeaways: Digital Futures: Local governments must ensure that digital innovation benefits all, especially marginalized groups. As part of UN-Habitat's People-Centered Smart Cities programme, we are developing international guidelines to ensure that digital infrastructure contributes to inclusive and sustainable urban development. Peaceful Futures: Rebuilding communities and fostering social cohesion are central to achieving peace. From Iraq to Ukraine, UN-Habitat’s initiatives have been critical in post-conflict recovery, demonstrating the power of local action in creating lasting peace. Sustainable Futures: With urban populations rapidly rising, the sustainability of cities is essential for a prosperous future. Adequate housing and multilevel governance are key to addressing the challenges of urbanization and creating resilient cities. As highlighted by our Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach "A sustainable and prosperous future is within our grasp, but it must be nurtured at the local level. Together, we can ensure that no place and no person is left behind." #SummitoftheFuture #Local2030

👩👧🌍 Leaving No #Women Behind in #UrbanDevelopment: Historically, #CityPlanning has marginalized women and girls from public spaces and decision-making, both locally and globally. Now, more than ever, urban development must focus on the inclusion of vulnerable groups to create cities that work for everyone. This crucial topic will be explored in the 4th episode of the #UrbanInnovation webinar series. 💡 Join us on 24 September to explore regulatory tools and participatory approaches from cities in the Global South, showing how inclusive planning fosters safer, healthier, and more vibrant cities for all.
