The CBM is the only specialist manufacturers’ organisation for experts in metalforming
About us
CBM is THE leading trade association for UK manufacturers of fasteners, forgings and pressings and fabrications, offering both business support and representation at the highest level for the metalforming industry. CBM members provide high quality components to key industry sectors; indeed virtually every manufacturing sector buys components from a CBM member company, most of which hold a range of third party quality accreditations. In addition to CBM's manufacturing companies, its associate members include suppliers of materials, equipment, consumables and services, universities (both in the UK and overseas) and research bodies - a true reflection of CBM's support of a totally integrated metalforming community. Working with members, and the UK government CBM creates a world class metalforming supply base for UK manufacturing. Maintaining close links with UK Department for Business, Energy, Innovation and Skills (BEIS), Transport and the Regions, and the Health & Safety Executive, CBM ensures that the members' interests are represented in the consultative processes which precede legislative or regulatory initiatives. Similarly, CBM is consulted on developments in relation to British and European product standards through the BSI and ECISS, the European Committee for Iron and Steel Standards.

Great day welcoming such an engaged group from JLR to Sertec Auto Structures Birmingham, thanks again and look forward to next time ... Neil Bayliss, Duncan Hamlyn, Vijay B R Pailla, Jakub Kraska, Jack Beddows, Sonia Del Rio Serrat, Vaibhav Gulhane
Yesterday, our Group Engineering Director, Richard Sadler, and Group Engineering Manager for Stampings, Neil Bayliss, were thrilled to welcome the JLR Body Exteriors team to Sertec Auto Structures Birmingham. The purpose of the visit was to share expertise on engineering feasibility and to tour our facility, which specialises in Body in white and EV components such as Busbars and Battery Coverings, as well as advanced assemblies for both automotive and non-automotive customers. During the visit, we discussed potential design solutions, inspired by our longstanding partnership, upcoming industry trends, and the challenges we foresee in the future. Today emphasised the crucial role of collaboration and innovation in tackling these challenges. We look forward to the next steps that were identified during today's visit and are excited to see our partnership with the JLR Body Exteriors team grow stronger. #Partnership #EngineeringSolutions #knowledgesharing

CBAM: Still Top of Our Agenda On April 5th, 2022, Chris Prior first raised CBAM with us. Nearly three years on, it’s still one of the biggest issues we face. After publishing our first policy paper on July 7th 2023, the urgency and complexity of CBAM has only grown—as shown by the increasing number of concerns from our members. Our recent Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) members-only calls have been some of the most attended we’ve ever had, even surpassing COVID numbers. And today, our joint webinar with BIAFD - the British & Irish Association of Fastener Distributors drew an incredible 138 attendees! A huge thank you to our policy advisor and CBAM guru, Phil Matten , for making it happen, and to Jamie Mcleod of Crowe UK and Víctor Pérez Prieto of Carbon Glance for providing a detailed update on the current status and giving advice to attendees on how to navigate their way through it . As expected, the session raised many questions—many of which have now been answered—but it also reinforced just how significant this issue is for our industry. CBAM is, at its core, a carbon tax. And the concerns of downstream metal users—both in the metals and fastener sectors—cannot be ignored. We must remain vigilant against lobbying efforts pushing for more stringent restrictions that could harm our industry, especially for SME downstream users . A big thank you to Ian Doherty and his members from #BIAFD for helping make this event such a success , we look forward to collaborating with them in the future. The conversation doesn’t stop here—CBAM remains at the top of our agenda. #shoutaboutukmfg #ukmanufacturing #SupportUKMfg Rachel Eade MBE Rachel Graville Adrian Musgrave Mark Webber Sarah Coombes Tammy Inglis Stephen Manley Steve Hardeman Ben Higgins Ben McIvor Rowan Crozier MBE Claire Whelan Claire Umney Richard Aylmore Richard Sadler Nick Thomas Peter Gallone BSc Mark Weymouth🏭📈 Stuart Blackett Konstanze Scharring Rain Newton-Smith Andrea Wilson Stephen Child Nick Sampson Macartan Flanagan Chris Oscroft Johnathan Dudley Ian Constance Richard Homden Nigel Blenkinsop Gareth Barker
