The CBM is the only specialist manufacturers’ organisation for experts in metalforming
About us
CBM is THE leading trade association for UK manufacturers of fasteners, forgings and pressings and fabrications, offering both business support and representation at the highest level for the metalforming industry. CBM members provide high quality components to key industry sectors; indeed virtually every manufacturing sector buys components from a CBM member company, most of which hold a range of third party quality accreditations. In addition to CBM's manufacturing companies, its associate members include suppliers of materials, equipment, consumables and services, universities (both in the UK and overseas) and research bodies - a true reflection of CBM's support of a totally integrated metalforming community. Working with members, and the UK government CBM creates a world class metalforming supply base for UK manufacturing. Maintaining close links with UK Department for Business, Energy, Innovation and Skills (BEIS), Transport and the Regions, and the Health & Safety Executive, CBM ensures that the members' interests are represented in the consultative processes which precede legislative or regulatory initiatives. Similarly, CBM is consulted on developments in relation to British and European product standards through the BSI and ECISS, the European Committee for Iron and Steel Standards.

Businesses are still under immense strain as a result of horrific contracts signed back in 2022. The brokers and suppliers who agreed these contracts have a lot to answer for.... BUT... So does the business itself and that's not often talked about!

My 2 weeks in Manufacturing slightly delayed due to hasty travel arrangements to Berlin 😊 .So July started with the election week but for me it was Prep with Geraldine Bolton for our Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) AGM & Board meeting later in the week and also a Walmley Golf Club Board meeting on Tuesday. My Press release for election result was completed on Wednesday 🤷🏻♂️come on we all knew what result would be 😊 The first update of the week was completed mainly focussing on #SteelSafeguarding with updates from both the UK and the EU. Thursday started with a double header with the CBM AGM and the CBM Board meeting , with the preparation helping it go smoothly, then it was another media review for our piece for the upcoming #UKMetalsExpo. This was swiftly followed by a discussion on CBAM and Tariffs into the USA , which was prep for meeting in week 2. Friday with the election result confirmed our press release was sent out to media outlets and also was shared on this platform , thank you for all the likes and comments. 🤙🏻😊 Finally another update to members focussing on the election and positive update from #smmt on the latest automotive figures . On to last week and Monday saw a visit to a potential new member and a very interesting but challenging but enjoyable discussion on Energy, Tariffs & CBAM . Tuesday and is a swift response to some of the issues raised the previous day . Wednesday and it was off to London for the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) (Industrial Strategy and New government session, hosted by Jordan Cummins , a very interesting and informative meeting . Managed to dial into out forging and fastener sector meeting hosted by Derek Bond , great to Stuart Gregory on the call after recent extensive surgery. 🤙🏻 Thursday was a further follow up to Mondays meeting followed by some hastily arranged travel plans to #Berlin . Great to have confirmation that our prompt follow up to Mondays meeting was beneficial with confirmation on route to Berlin that we have another new member. #Berlin is just such an historic city and huge from Checkpoint Charlie , Brandeburg Gate , the Holocaust memorial and ending up in the historic Olympic Stadium. Barbara Bergmeier it wasn’t the final you hoped for but #Germany 🇩🇪 but on a great event 👏🏻👏🏻It was a great experience to be at the final #England came up short on the night and #Spain 🇪🇸were worthy #Europeanchampions2024 #shoutaboutukmfg #ukmanufacturing #supportukmfg Rachel Eade MBE Rachel Graville Mark Webber Tammy Inglis Stephen Manley Steve Hardeman Ben Higgins Ben McIvor Rowan Crozier MBE Claire Whelan Claire Umney Richard Aylmore Richard Sadler Garrett Bell Grant Adams Nick Thomas Peter Gallone BSc Mark Weymouth🏭📈 Stuart Blackett Konstanze Scharring Kirsty Davies-Chinnock Rain Newton-Smith Andrea Wilson Stephen Child Christopher Greenough Chris Prior Nick Sampson Macartan Flanagan Chris Oscroft Matt Adams Adrian Musgrave

My week in Manufacturing was a full on week as you might expect after a week away . First up on Monday was an update to members including the latest PMI’s showing some positive signs for #manufacturing. Tuesday and it was the #SMMTAutomotiveSummit in London great to see Konstanze Scharring and have a good catch up with Ian Constance on all things automotive and bit of footy thrown in . A host of very good speakers made for a good event and great to see our new members JLR being represented by Reuben Chorley making a great point on sustainability and the importance of “Making it part of everyday business and try and make difference”. They are progressing well with their internal journey and with the supply chain and we look forward to JLR sharing their learning with our members. A further update to members covering the release from DBT safeguarding extension and some positive automotive news from Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Friday it was of to Sertec Aluminum Structures Tyseley to see the fantastic improvements they’ve made to the plant by in particular the employee facilities thanks to Martin Hinkley for the invite and the fantastic football quotes. Finally last but certainly not least the fabulous In-Comm Training awards hosted by Bekki Phillips & Gareth Jones fantastic to see our young engineers and not so young , being recognised especially the females, as we need to encourage more into our sector. #shoutaboutukmfg #ukmanufacturing #supportukmfg Rachel Eade MBE Rachel Graville Mark Webber Tammy Inglis Stephen Manley Steve Hardeman Ben Higgins Ben McIvor Rowan Crozier MBE Claire Whelan Claire Umney Richard Aylmore Richard Sadler Garrett Bell Grant Adams Nick Thomas Peter Gallone BSc Mark Weymouth🏭📈 Stuart Blackett Kirsty Davies-Chinnock Rain Newton-Smith Andrea Wilson Stephen Child Christopher Greenough Barbara Bergmeier Geraldine Bolton Chris Prior Nick Sampson Macartan Flanagan
