Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting five students from Build The Way C.I.C at our Clerkenwell studio for a "Day in the Life". With help from our team members, Işık Kaya, Priya Thandi, Priyanka Hegde and Digory Macfarlane, they got hands-on with our in-house materials library and digital modeling software, adding their own creative twist to our completed KEF Music Gallery project. Later in the day, the students headed to Fitzrovia to experience the mind-blowing sound of the Ultimate Experience Room first-hand. "I’ve never felt anything like the euphoria of the Ultimate Experience Room… still in awe!” said Kyle Blake-Green. Thank you to Build The Way C.I.C for supporting young talent in architecture. It was great having you in the studio and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

What are the dos and don'ts for designing a hotel lobby? "My first memory of a major shift in ‘lobby culture’ is the likes of Ace Hotel and citizenM, where the palatial gave way to the cosy." said Associate Director Chris Thornley in his latest piece for DARC magazine. Chris' rulebook: 1️⃣Do make a statement. 2️⃣Interpret the context in an abstracted way. 3️⃣Have an idea of budget and ceiling height before you start designing. 4️⃣Consider day to night, this comes back to the atmosphere. 5️⃣Never illuminate people from five storeys high. 6️⃣Steer away from lighting with too many bulbs. Carnarvon Terrace in Clacton-on-Sea has received planning permission! Our design for Tendring District Council will transform the High Street car park into a vibrant, sustainable hub, including: 🌲A new public realm designed as a ‘green stepping stone’ to balance urban activity with moments of pause. 🏠A four-storey residential block, Carnarvon Terrace, delivering 28 new homes- of which 40% affordable- to meet local demand. 🤝A series of flexible mixed-use spaces and innovative workspaces, run by the local authority, to foster local businesses, collaboration, and innovation in the heart of the town. 🚗 A new four-storey parking, strategically relocated behind the existing supermarket to create a new green public amenity space while fulfilling parking demand. This International Women’s Day, we shine the spotlight on inspiring women shaping the creative arts—from architecture and fashion to textiles and fine art. To mark the occasion, our designers, Clara Hinshelwood and Lily Riley, headed to South East London to explore the world of artists Sophia Vigne Welsh, Catarina Riccabona and Lara Pain. Inside their studios, they witnessed creativity first-hand—seeing each brushstroke, textile weave, and design choice come to life. "There’s something so special about visiting artists in their studios rather than digitally. You gain a deeper understanding of their process and a personal connection to their work—something that just can’t be replicated through a screen." says Clara. Thank you to Sophia, Catarina, and Lara for welcoming us into your creative spaces! #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #Design

This #WorldBookDay, we’re turning the pages of inspiration as our design Principals share their must-read books in architecture, design and beyond. 1️⃣Donald Judd Spaces “Donald Judd is my favourite artist, but what most people don’t know is that he was an incredible spatial designer. You are not allowed to take pictures of his spaces, so this book is truly something special, offering an insight into his world.” Tina Norden 2️⃣ Walter Gropius: Visionary Founder of the Bauhaus by Fiona MacCarthy “Walter Gropius is truly inspiring. He achieved remarkable feats despite turbulent times while staying true to his vision.” Tim Bowder-Ridger 3️⃣ Atomic Habits by James Clear “I flirt between consuming visual and creative inspiration in printed form to getting stuck into physiology and wellness content! Atomic Habits by James Clear is my current favourite. Can I get 1% better today?” Simon Kincaid What’s your favourite read? 📖

From mega tenants engaging with the postcode to small offices promoting wellness. How are offices building communities inside and out? Last week, partner Simon Kincaid took the stage at Workspace Design Show London and shared his insights on what the multi-tenant buildings can learn from hotels and high-end residential. "Upstairs is where everyone stays and enjoy their private sphere, but it’s the downstairs space that needs to be special—somewhere that attracts guests, inspires tenants and draws people in. This translates into design outputs that blend aspiration and function—great acoustics, good lighting, and lobbies that work like a lifestyle bar or restaurant." said Simon. Thank you to our co-panellists Giuseppe Cariello (Zendesk), Adrienne Lau (Heatherwick studio) and Michael Simon (Bond Bryan) and to Allison English (Aéto Strategy) for the brilliant moderation. #WorkplaceDesign #HospitalityDesign #ResidentialDesign #BuildingCommunities

How do we build communities in the workplace? "When it comes to lobbies, striking the balance between public, semi-private, and private spaces is key in all settings, both in offices and hotels. At 45 Mortimer Street, where we crafted a series of flexible spaces using soft partitions to create semi-private areas for client meetings or individual work. These semi-enclosed spaces allow employees to focus while being part of a shared experience and community." said Simon Kincaid to Alys Bryan from Design Insider Come and hear more on the topic at Workspace Design Show London next Thursday at 4:15pm as Simon joins leaders from the design and workplace industry on the main stage. 📸Anna Stathaki - - #OfficeSpace #Commerialspaces #InteriorDesign #Workplace
