There is only 6 weeks till the 🌟 14 MARCH 2025 🌟 deadline to submit your entries for the CESW Awards 2025. Our awards are one of the most prominent accolades in the South West's built environment, a celebration of exemplary practices. They serve as a resounding testament to the inherent success of the construction industry in the region, showcasing its dedication and determination to deliver diverse buildings, housing, infrastructure, and facilities through collaborative and sustainable means. To qualify for the Constructing Excellence Awards 2025 the project must be worked on at some point between the 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024 The project does not necessarily need to be complete but, depending on the category we would recommend waiting to nearer or after completion so you can present a more complete submission. Two Stage Procurement – What Can We Do To Make It Better 2/4 Following on from Design, the marker pens where running dry with the feedback on what we can do to make 2-stage better in the Commercial arena. The headlines: - creating specific KPI's to track the cost plan from inception - the importance of engaging the market place on current costs in the development of cost plans - clarity about the expectations are of Contractors are in the PCSA period and (the Client) paying a realistic fee for those services. Two Stage Procurement – What Can We Do To Make It Better At the end of November, Constructing Excellence South West & the Forum for the Built Environment great western branch ran a collaborative workshop looking at this key issue. We had 41 attendees from all backgrounds who contributed fully across the 4 topics areas of Design, Client, Commercial & Sustainability. Summary Output 1/ 4 - Design: Project Delivery is improved with: - Clear consultant appointments covering every aspect of design - CDP elements need to be appointed (and paid for) in the 2nd stage - Programmes that are realistic and reflect the reviews for design, cost and risks that are always required but rarely included Summaries 2-4 from the other topics will follow.
