We were honoured to recently welcome a group of Access to Science learners from The Cornwall College Group to our Trelavour Hard Rock Project. Each year, the group selects an employer for their industry visit, and we were proud to be their choice for 2025. The day began in our Visitor Centre with an insightful introductory talk by our ESG Senior Officer, Chloe Bayliss, followed by a tour of our demonstration processing plant and on-site laboratory. One of the standout moments was when our lab technician, Cora Barnard, shared her expertise with the group. Cora was taught by the Chemistry Lecturer leading the visit - a meaningful full-circle connection that truly embodies the synergy between education and industry. To wrap up #BritishScienceWeek, we're excited to provide another behind-the-scenes look into the work happening at our on-site laboratory, this time at our United Downs site near Redruth, where we're exploring for lithium in geothermal waters. Join our chemist, Michelle, and lab technician, Anne, as they analyse water samples from our exploration boreholes. Having a laboratory on-site allows us to gather accurate data quickly, which is critical to the success of our projects. Through advanced analysis, we can determine the lithium concentration and identify other key elements that may impact processing. Our lab teams play an essential role in providing the data that drives our projects forward. Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce that planning permission has been granted to build the UK’s first commercial lithium production facility at our Cross Lanes Lithium Project near Chacewater, Cornwall.    This marks a significant step toward reducing the UK’s reliance on imported lithium and supports the UK’s transition to renewable energy and a net-zero future. The Cornish Lithium team recently had the privilege of joining forces with Plant One CIC, a Community Interest Company focused on enhancing Cornwall’s biodiversity through large-scale tree planting initiatives. As a partner of Plant One since 2023, we are directly contributing to the restoration of Celtic woodlands, improving wildlife habitats, and increasing the region’s carbon capture capacity. Currently, Cornwall has just 9% tree cover, making projects like these critical for the local ecosystem. At a planting site near Falmouth, our team had the chance to get hands-on with planting a variety of native trees, including Elder and Hawthorn. This initiative is not only an excellent opportunity for us to contribute to the environment but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability. Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the incredible women who have shaped Cornish Lithium and continue to drive our mission forward. While the mining sector is known for being traditionally male-dominated, things are slowly but surely changing.
