Commenting on Costain’s results for the first half of 2024, Alex Vaughan , our CEO, said: “We are performing strongly and are progressing with our strategic priorities in our chosen growth markets, including broadening our customer and service mix. In the first half we have delivered a further significant increase in operating profit together with a sharp growth in earnings per share. “As a result of our strong performance and valued long-term relationships with our customers, we have increased our forward work position to a very healthy £4.3bn at the half year, with contract wins across all our sectors." Today we announced our Half Year Results for the first half of 2024 to 30 June. We’re pleased with our continued strong financial performance, with a £4.3bn forward work position. Adjusted operating profit is up 8.7% and we’re on course to meet margin targets of 3.5% and 4.5% in FY24 and FY25 respectively. As a result of our confidence in our long-term prospects, and our strong cash position, we have today announced a £10m share buyback and interim dividend payment of 0.4p. 💧 We've successfully secured a contract worth £6.6m to upgrade two Thames Water strategic wastewater treatment sites at Markyate and Brickendon in Hertfordshire. Due to complete in 2026, our work will modernise operations at inlet stations and upgrade storm tanks which will improve the sites’ ability to manage incoming wastewater. We're also working on similar projects in Berkshire and Hampshire, amounting to £5m. This is all part of Thames Water’s £1.12bn investment programme to upgrade sewers and sewage treatment works on over 250 sites. We've been selected by bp to deliver a front-end engineering and design (FEED) project that will enable the construction of a new #hydrogen pipeline network in the Teesside area. 🔷 As part of the East Coast Cluster, the integrated blue #hydrogen production facility and hydrogen distribution pipeline will provide industrial users with an alternative to natural gas, a key step in the development of the hydrogen economy. 👷♂️ 👷♀️ Our in-house #engineering expertise will design a 31km pipeline distribution network that will safely transport hydrogen from bp's proposed H2Teesside project, its low carbon hydrogen production plant. We’ve been recognised by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for our health and #safety credentials. The awards, the UK’s largest health and safety awards programme, recognise organisations’ commitments to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work. Our #energy and #defence teams have been awarded the Patron’s award – the highest possible accolade – after achieving 33 consecutive Gold awards, whilst our Industrial Cooling business has received an Order of Distinction for achieving a Gold award for the 18th consecutive year. Two of our other projects were also recognised with Gold and Silver awards.
