Completion of a fantastic charitable project at Ridgeway Infant School in Derby, in collaboration with our client, Costain Group PLC. The project involved creating an Olympic-sized sandpit for outdoor play, sensory learning, and creativity. Special thanks to our team for their hard work and to Stewart Atkin for driving it forward. Our M1 J28-30 scheme is now open for traffic, making 18 more emergency areas available on this section of the M1 in Derbyshire. It's yet another development that show’s there no let up whatsoever by SMP Alliance in our determination to successfully deliver the National Emergency Area Retrofit (NEAR) programme by the end of this month for the benefit of all road users. Final traffic management / cones were removed on schedule on Sunday 9 March, in a move that reflects the #productivity and #efficiency of our NEAR North colleagues, who have constructed a total of 41 additional emergency areas on the M1 in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. This team is led by Alliance on-site assembly partner Costain Group PLC working in conjunction with design partners in WSP in the UK and Jacobs, as well as production management partner Fluor Corporation and colleagues in National Highways, both within the Alliance and in the Operations Directorate (Midlands), including the Operations Recovery Team. 📍 M27 Eastbound Verge Despite high expectations and tight deadlines, our team on the M27 is making great progress on the Eastbound Verge Works! The project’s objective is to apply an asphalt overlay on the existing concrete road, raising all elements by 180mm. This includes surrounding embankments and overlays. Key works include repairing drainage defects, elevating the cabinet site, adjusting CKD and splay kerbs, applying topsoil to localised areas, raising chambers in verges and carriageways, and installing Type B filter media. We extend our gratitude to our supply chain for delivering materials on time and to the highest standard, ensuring minimal delays and seamless operations! As part of our social value initiatives, our team on the M27 project partnered with Love Outdoors to design and create a sensory garden at Forton Medical Centre in Gosport. The garden features winding pathways, a log-bench seating area, a wildflower meadow, and a heart-shaped rose garden framed by willow trees. CR Civils managed the surfacing works, and installed sustainable Grasscrete paving and filter stone to ensure accessibility. The garden is already in use, with Tai Chi sessions taking place, and staff have praised the team for thoughtful additions such as gravel between raised beds and safer, tidier paths for volunteers. Permanent repair of a temporary repair continues for Morrison Water Services . Once again thanks to Ainscough Crane Hire for the 65 m reach lift facility. Thanks CR Civil Engineering team for piping up and creating the concrete supports and thrust blocks and generally giving me a hand to facilitate this. Thanks to the geniuses at R2M Site Services Ltd for supply and install of eazivalves and UPT. This is how we deal with the sewer when we have no manholes to bypass! . final step: blue pipe out and red pipe in!
