Storm Éowyn is the fifth storm already of the 2024/2025 cycle, which runs from early September to late August each year. Northern Ireland and Scotland’s central belt were significantly impacted with gusts reported of well over 81mph. Our team have been busy supporting clients and their policyholders in Scotland. Despite hectic schedules, there was still time for loss adjuster, Eilidh McCallum Cert CILA, BDMA, PMICS, to capture a quick photo of the breathtaking view of Edinburgh Castle. However, our range of services has expanded considerably over the years and we now handle complex household claims and commercial losses, particularly in the Real Estate sector. Criterion are totally committed to providing a highly professional and efficient claims handling and loss adjusting service. We also have the complimentary ‘Criterion Surveying’ service providing appraisals for listed buildings, high value houses and unique homes throughout the UK undertaken by our separate surveying team. Our managing director Helena Evans ACILA FUEDI - ELAE FIFAA spoke with Mia Wallace from Insurance Business UK about how damage from recent flooding is impacting high-net-worth insurance customers – and how the insurance industry can step up to support them. For example, a core challenge in supporting HNW clients during these incidents is that of finding accommodation for any customer during a localised surge event. With HNW individuals, Helena told Insurance Business, the challenge will be finding a property of the same size and standard in the same area, that is available to rent. These challenges require a deep understanding of the unique needs of HNW clients. ➡️ Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/gpU9SRzh

Visiting Jersey, Mallorca and fire damage at a 16th Century property in Bedfordshire. It’s all in a week’s work for Stuart Dean, associate director at Criterion Adjusters. Stuart shares his hectic and varied schedule with Insurance Post. It’s a role that in this one week alone sees him liaising with conservation offices, drone operators, forensic specialists, surveyors, structural engineers, restoration experts, scaffolders, kitchen fitters and most importantly: policyholders. “Having an empathetic approach with the policyholder is so important. While you can’t immediately make things better, understanding what they have just been through and giving them your time to just listen is key. "I spent several hours on site, but left hoping that I had helped answer any of the policyholders’ immediate worries and minimised where I could, the stress they were clearly feeling.” Read the article in full here https://lnkd.in/eYRkG2Ja

Criterion were delighted to be invited to participate in a panel discussion at the Insurance Age HNW forum. Sean Fitzgerald our Technical and Quality Manager joined Jonathan Swift, Grace Best-Devereux and Claire Welford ACII ACILA to discuss 'Tackling underinsurance in high net worth: spotting and mitigating the biggest gaps in coverage and how can we protect clients?' Key discussion areas: 🗣️ The benefits of obtaining valuations whereby Insurers as a result could offer rebuilding costs guarantees and extended cover for specified items beyond the sum insured to deal with fast-appreciating items such as high-end watches fuelled by limited supply. 🗣️ Past challenges, Covid and Brexit and future challenges including availability of labour and materials and possible effects of the government’s plans for rapid expansion of house building programme, wars and conflicts. Key takeaways from the session: ➡️ Valuations need to be obtained from the appropriate professional to ensure sums insured are correctly set and importance of reviewing at regular intervals. ➡️ A general surveyor may not be appropriate for listed and heritage properties. ➡️ Understand what the policy covers, e.g. for Buildings cover the sum insured should not just cover the home but outbuildings, driveways, walls, fences, gates, tennis courts and swimming pools which can be overlooked. ➡️Accurately reflect the value of fixtures and fittings and home automation. Our specialist surveying division, Criterion Surveyors Ltd offers expertise in rebuilding cost assessments for the HNW market. One of our knowledgeable team members would be happy to explain how. #insurance #HNW #HNWi #lossadjuster #claimsadjuster #insuranceclaims
