Her work on CUR8's First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) financing solution developed in partnership with British Airways, Standard Chartered Bank, and UNDO addresses a critical challenge faced by the nascent carbon removals industry: the difficulty for carbon removal companies to transition from early-stage funding sources, such as venture capital and grants, to commercial debt and longer-term financing provided by banks. The panel highlighted the increasing recognition among airlines and governing bodies for carbon removals. They discussed the Oxford Principles for Net Zero Carbon Aligned Offsetting, the moral obligation towards permanent carbon removals, and the crucial role of compliance markets.
