Meet Sarah Heard, Senior Director, Beyond Carbon here at BeZero. 👋🌲 Carbon projects aren’t just about reducing emissions - they come with social and environmental risks too. Transparency on these risks is key so buyers can truly understand a project’s value, from carbon impact to biodiversity, jobs, and community benefits. That’s where Sarah and her team come in. 🌍 🗓️ You can catch her at North American Carbon World on the 25-27th March to discuss co-benefits, going beyond carbon and looking at carbon projects holistically ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e3v-mh-K #BeyondCarbon #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction

  • 🚜 Regenerative agriculture can enhance soil quality and increase carbon sequestration, but adoption rates vary due to financial, social, and technological barriers. 🔠 Carbon finance can help overcome these barriers, while carbon ratings equip developers, investors and buyers with a deeper understanding of project-level risks. 🛰️ Read our technical explainer to learn about the remote sensing techniques we use to inform our independent assessments of project quality: https://hubs.li/Q03c44JQ0 #RegenerativeAgriculture #RemoteSensing #CarbonCredits #CarbonRatings

🌎 Big news in carbon removal! 📣 BeZero has assigned the market’s first public rating of a biomass burial carbon removal project a 'AA', representing a very high likelihood of achieving its CO₂e removal objectives. 💡What is biomass burial? Also known as “Subsurface Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage” or “Terrestrial Biomass Storage”, this engineered carbon removal (CDR) method stores biomass, which naturally removes atmospheric carbon via photosynthesis, in an engineered burial site. 📈 While a relatively nascent sub-sector within CDR, biomass burial has the potential to remove 1 to 12 GtCO₂ globally each year by 2050. 🔎 Learn more about this milestone and what it means for the CDR market: https://hubs.li/Q03bMlgj0 #BiomassBurial #CDR #CarbonRemoval #CarbonCredits #CarbonRatings

🎓 A ground-breaking study published by Science Magazine last week and co-authored by BeZero Scientists Dr Fernanda Coelho de Souza and Dr Camila Silva sheds new light on how tropical forests in the Americas are responding to climate change—or rather, how they are struggling to keep pace. Along with researchers from over 120 institutions, they found striking patterns in tree community trait shifts over the past 40 years: • Surviving trees are more likely to have adaptations to existing warmer and drier climates—a shift towards deciduous species, with higher leaf photosynthetic capacity and with smaller, thinner leaves. • Newly recruited trees are composed by individuals potentially better adapted to emerging climate conditions, showing higher rates of tracking a changing climate compared to the surviving trees. 🌳 What does this mean? Tropical forests in the Americas are responding to climate change, but at a fraction of the pace required to maintain equilibrium with local climate conditions, making them more vulnerable to future climate shifts. 🔎 This has implications for the permanence of tropical forest carbon. If forests cannot adapt fast enough to accelerating climate change, their ability to sequester and store carbon over long timeframes may be at risk. From Tokyo to Singapore, Sebastien Cross, our Chief Innnovation Officer and Co-founder, has been deep in discussions on scaling carbon markets across Asia - exploring how different countries can build a harmonised, cross-border carbon ecosystem with sustained demand for high-integrity credits. 🌏 Key Takeaways: ✅ Carbon ratings & insurance are shaping project development & pricing: transparency is key. ✅ Harmonising fragmented markets: Ratings can help governments assess the benefits of exporting credits or connecting their markets to others. ✅ ASEAN’s carbon market: the region has immense potential to drive tangible climate impact, and ratings can create sustained demand for high-integrity carbon credits. With stops In New Delhi and Seoul, these conversations are driving the future of carbon markets in Asia. We're thrilled that BeZero is part of this journey! #CarbonMarkets #ASEAN #CarbonRatings

🎉 We're working with ICE to give 120,000 ICE Chat users access to our headline ratings. Now, when ICE CRED users within ICE Chat search for a rated carbon credit, the project's BeZero Carbon Rating will be displayed alongside project information. Our platform now also displays a project's respective ICE CRED Carbon Reference Identifier at a project level (ICE CRED ID) and vintage level (ICE CREF ID). • 📣 The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has accepted three improved cookstove methodologies as CCP-eligible, with significant conditions, notably for fraction of non-renewable biomass (fNRB). One domestic biodigester methodology was also approved. No BeZero Carbon-rated cookstove projects are currently CCP-eligible, but five residential heating projects that use one of the approved methodologies - with an average BeZero Carbon Rating of BB - are likely CCP-compliant. No cookstove credits currently in circulation are CCP-eligible. Projects employing approved methodologies but rejected due to other criteria have BeZero Carbon Ratings ranging from A to C, meaning some higher quality projects have been left out of the CCP label.
