The new Labour government in the UK laid out its plans for the year yesterday, at the state opening of the new parliament. Nick Gray, our chief operating officer for the UK & Europe, says it’s reassuring to hear a focus on the built environment in their legislative priorities. "Infrastructure projects, housebuilding, transport improvements and planning reform are important steps towards addressing economic growth. You might have heard people using the phrase “nature positive” recently. Certainly, in the built environment industry it’s becoming a popular term. But with no clear definition, it can easily be misused and can even lead to unintentional greenwashing. To help build certainty and drive nature restoration in our built environment, UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is working to create a nature-positive framework definition. Elizabeth Greenhill from our London team will be using her experience alongside other industry experts who will be contributing to the project. #NaturePositive #Nature #Restoration

Great news! Mike Armstrong, an associate in our pre-contract team, has been shortlisted in the Mentor of the Year category at the RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards 2024. Now in its 11th year, this prestigious event honours high achievers in the surveying industry. It supports the next generation of surveyors and spotlights visible and relatable role models from varied backgrounds. Mike has recently transferred from our London headquarters to our office in Saudi Arabia to capitalise on the exciting project opportunities there. Last month, our teams from around the world celebrated Pride Month. This year our teams took part in a variety of events which were relevant and important to their region. Here are just some of the ways our teams across the world got involved: In the USA, our teams held webinars which focused on how to be a positive ally and promote inclusion in the workplace and outside. Our Australian teams got involved with art and photo competitions, while our Perù office all wore pride colours to work to show their support of the event. We also welcomed RICS DEI lead Sybil Taunton in a pan-European webinar, to talk about the importance of Pride and how best to promote allyship within the industry. Members of our London office also joined RICS at the end of June for London Pride. Colleagues from across the world also showed solidarity by attending Pride parades, knitting Pride scarves, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity every day. Regardless of our individual social identities, we can all grow our awareness to support the LGBTQ+ community, and ensure we're active allies all year round. Well done to our teams!
