Last up from our 5 sustainable building materials, we have none other than everyone’s favourite red metal... COPPER! 🦺 Flexible, corrosion-resistant and long-lasting, copper is another highly valuable construction material. It is widely used in pipework, cladding and roofing, as well as high-touch surfaces like handrails and countertops due to its antimicrobial properties. So, why is it sustainable? 👇 ✅ Like most other metals, copper can be recycled infinitely. ✅ In Europe, it’s estimated that 70% of copper from end-of-life products is recycled. ✅ With civil engineering projects the recycling rate rises to 90%. ✅ The average copper product in circulation today has a recycled content of 30%. ✅ Copper also performs strongly in terms of carbon footprint, with recycled tubes and sheets – the two most commonly used components in construction – having an embodied carbon of 0.84 CO2e/kg. #ChooseCopper

We saw a post recently that has some myths that need busting... While MLCPs may be gaining more attention recently, their ‘positives’ do not outweigh that of copper in the slightest. Just because they ‘supposedly’ take less time to install, doesn’t mean they’re the better option. After all, it’s a reflection of how long it’ll last. Sometimes, there is no need to reinvent the wheel - classics are classics for a reason! And if you choose copper press fittings, there is no need to solder, meaning MLCPs aren’t necessarily quicker! So, why do we think copper remains a superior option? 🤔 ♻️ Recyclability: Unlike MLCPs, which can contribute to microplastics and are difficult to recycle, copper is infinitely recyclable without quality loss. 🥽 Safety: It’s antimicrobial and doesn’t leach harmful chemicals into your water supply. 💪 Durability: The lifespan of copper, resistance to UV damage, and ability to withstand high temperatures make it more energy-efficient over time, requiring less maintenance. 🌍 Sustainability: Copper aligns with environmental goals by reducing microplastic pollution, ensuring a healthier planet and safer built environments for everyone.
