Our new Orthopaedic Outpatient Centre is taking shape at speed! Groundworks started just last month – and last week the modules that form the new centre were delivered on site by lorry and inched into position by a crane. Delivered by construction partner Darwin Group the new Orthopaedic Outpatient Centre will feature nine consultation and examination rooms and a modernised plaster bay, as well as improved staff office and rest areas, with opening scheduled for May. Its creation will mean that the space currently occupied by our orthopaedic outpatients services in the hospital can be developed to provide an expanded Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. SDEC is a way of providing care that sees patients with urgent, non-life-threatening conditions being assessed, diagnosed, and treated on the same day, aiming to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Capital funding of £4.2 million has come from NHS England for both the creation of the Orthopaedic Outpatient Centre and expansion of SDEC facilities.
