Delighted to share our new article, now available open access in 'Construction and Building Materials'! This work looks at #3Dprinting of cementitious materials, quantifying how their fluid properties are continuously changing during printing and how this influences the filament cross section. This is part of our work to help manufacturers improve quality control and ensure predictable mechanical properties of the final printed structures. Well done to the lead author and researcher, Richard (Yu) J., and to co-author Qingxin Zhang, in the work supervised by me and Abir Al-Tabbaa. Our researchers have developed comfortable, washable ‘smart pyjamas’ that can monitor sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea at home, without the need for sticky patches, cumbersome equipment or a visit to a specialist sleep clinic. https://lnkd.in/ewtJrwnd The team developed printed fabric #sensors that can monitor breathing by detecting tiny movements in the skin, even when the pyjamas are worn loosely around the neck and chest. The sensors embedded in the smart pyjamas were trained using a ‘lightweight’ #AI #algorithm and can identify six different sleep states with 98.6% accuracy, while ignoring regular sleep movements such as tossing and turning. cc. #Research #Funding #Won (A bit of a late update but...) Excited to share that together with a fantastic team (Brian Sheil, Jennifer Schooling, Dr. Maya Indira Ganesh and Viviana Angely Bastidas Melo), we were recently #awarded #funding from EPSRC + AI Security Institute for the project: “Guiding the boots on the ground: Advancing ethically informed socio-technical safety of AI systems in the public sector.” Our project is 1 of the 20 successful applications that received funding out of 450+ submissions. Wining this #funding comes at an exciting time and allows us to work closely with #local #authorities in the #UK to examine how they can effectively govern the integration of socio-technical #ethical and #safety principles into the #deployment of #AIsystems informing urban-scale decisions. This #project is a unique complement to, and extension of, our team's momentum built from ongoing work focused on #ethically #rooted #AI for #public #value under the University of Cambridge ai@cam initiative. Our current Energy Technologies MPhil cohort are just over half way through their course and have completed their core lab activities this week - one group managed to design a turbine blade which defeated the test rig (see below)! Proof-of-Concept Awards: £5,000 to £20,000 (no FEC) Project Awards: £20,000 to £150,000 (no FEC) 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: • Crop based agriculture/horticulture. We are unable to fund livestock research at this time. • Translational research – projects should be translational with commercial goals, not basic research • Applicants must be researchers at UK University or EPSRC approved RTO • You have not already spun a company out • Impact in Lincam – You do NOT need to be based in the Lincam region (Lincolnshire and N.
