For the first time ever, the Kabaddi World Cup has expanded beyond Asia, and the West Midlands is proud to host this prestigious tournament. The opening ceremony set the stage for an incredible week of competition, bringing together world-class athletes, distinguished guests, and a passionate audience. The event featured dynamic performances from Bollywood Dreams Dance School and Wolverhampton Music Service, celebrating the region’s rich cultural diversity. Speeches from Neil, Councillor Gakhal (City of Wolverhampton Council), and Ashok Das (President, World Kabaddi) highlighted the significance of this milestone event and the growing global reach of Kabaddi. Following the ceremony, the tournament officially began with the first men’s match, England vs. Hungary, marking the start of what promises to be a thrilling championship. With matches taking place across Coventry, Walsall, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton from March 17-23, the West Midlands is set to become the epicentre of Kabaddi. As part of our series of 24-hour FAM visits, we welcomed five Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to Coventry to experience the city’s rich history, culture, and accessibility. Arriving by train, the group saw how easily Coventry connects to mainline routes before touring Hotel Indigo Coventry, one of the city’s newest properties, and enjoying lunch at Cogs Restaurant. A walking tour with Blue Badge Guide Roger Bailey brought medieval Coventry to life, followed by a visit to Coventry Transport Museum, home to the world’s largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles. With an overnight stay at Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Coventry, the following morning, the group explored Coventry Cathedral, a striking symbol of resilience and peace, before discovering the city’s heritage through exhibitions at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry. The visit ended at St Mary's Guildhall , a beautifully preserved medieval landmark with a grand Great Hall and one of the UK’s finest tapestries.
