About us
City of Wolverhampton Council is working alongside local, regional, and national partners to improve outcomes for local people. Our City: Our Plan Our City: Our Plan sets out an ambition that ‘Wulfrunians will live longer, healthier lives.’ Delivery of this ambition is supported by six overarching priorities: 1. Strong families where children grow up well and achieve their full potential 2. Fulfilled lives for all with quality care for those that need it 3. Healthy, inclusive communities 4. Good homes in well-connected neighbourhoods 5. More local people into good jobs and training 6. Thriving economy in all parts of the city Our principles Our six overarching priorities are supported by three cross cutting principles: Climate Conscious The plan is aligned to the council’s climate change strategy ‘Future Generations’ and our target to make the council net carbon zero by 2028. Reducing carbon emissions will continue to be a local and national priority. Driven by Digital Wolverhampton is at the forefront of digital infrastructure and innovation, and now more than ever we have seen the importance of digital skills and connectivity to social and economic participation for the city’s residents. Fair and Equal The council will continue to tackle the inequalities in our city which impact on the opportunities of local people. The plan is aligned to our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy which is underpinned by directorate level action plans. All that we do as an organisation will support these strategic priorities. We cannot do this in isolation, we will continue to work as one council and one city to ensure that these priorities are delivered. 🚧 Wavensmere Homes’ £150m Canalside South Scheme Approved in Wolverhampton 🌱 Wavensmere Homes has secured planning approval for the £150m Canalside South development, transforming a 17.5-acre former industrial site in Wolverhampton’s city centre. The project will deliver over 530 high EPC-rated homes, 20% designated for affordable housing, plus seven acres of green space and commercial amenities. Councillor Stephen Simkins, Leader of City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “This project is fundamental to our brownfield-first strategy, driving investment into the Green Innovation Corridor. Bringing life back to these redundant sites is critical to boosting footfall into our city centre.” James Dickens, Managing Director of Wavensmere Homes, added: “Wolverhampton is a city open for business. This scheme will be a catalyst for a new wave of ambitious city living and we can now look forward to work starting on site. The proactive approach of the Council has been unprecedented, and we are committed to further investment in the city.” Andrew Chandler, Development Manager at the Canal & River Trust, shared: “This scheme will transform derelict brownfield land and connect people to the local canal network. It will positively influence future development along the canals, demonstrating that life really is better by water.” To view the plans visit: www.canalsideWV1.co.uk Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eC6atJ5N #UrbanDevelopment #GreenInnovation #CanalsideSouth #InvestWolverhampton #HousingTransformation #Sustainability #BrownfieldRegeneration

🏆 Wolverhampton’s St George’s Neighbourhood Architectural Competition Winner Announced! Mikhail Riches and Periscope have won the international competition to design a major new neighbourhood on the former Sainsbury’s site and around historic St George’s Church in Wolverhampton. Former RIBA President, Angela Brady OBE praised the winning design for its "imaginative retrofitting" and "distinct zones" that promise to "create a great future for the area." Councillor Chris Burden emphasised the project as a “game-changing neighbourhood" and a "critical part of our citywide plan.” John Moffat of Capital&Centric called the design a “deserved winner” that will transform the site into "welcoming new spaces where people want to spend time.” The winning design will form the basis of the evolving St George's masterplan, with a pre-planning application submission to follow later this year. We look forward to seeing these inspiring plans come to life, revitalising Wolverhampton’s community and setting a new benchmark for brownfield regeneration in the city!
