🎉 Results Day is here, and we're thrilled to announce the release of our 'End of Year School Report' for 2023-2024! 🎓 Read Here: https://lnkd.in/eEENCZ_X 🌟 This year, our amazing volunteer Role Models and Facilitators made a huge impact, tackling bullying and fostering inclusivity in schools across the UK. 2023/24 has been a Year of Incredible Impact: 💥 1,389 workshops delivered 💥 268 schools reached 💥 45,323 students impacted Our dedicated team of 95 Role Models and 11 Facilitators brought their personal stories into classrooms, creating safe spaces for empathy, understanding, and acceptance. 🏆 The results? 100% of school staff rated our Role Models and Facilitators as ‘excellent,’ with 96% of teachers giving top marks to our workshop content. But the real impact is felt in the words of the students themselves: 🗣️ "I feel more comfortable at school now." - Student, South East 🗣️ "I’d be an upstander, not a bystander." - Student, London 🗣️ "I think I could be braver now." - Student, North East These stories show the lasting difference our workshops make, helping students feel supported and confident in their identities. 🌈💖 On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the vital role of young people in shaping a more inclusive and compassionate world. This year's theme, 'From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,' highlights the power of digital platforms in connecting those who might otherwise feel isolated. For young people who are considered 'different,' such as those in the LGBTQ+ community, these digital spaces offer a lifeline—allowing them to find connection, representation, and support. At Diversity Role Models, we harness the power of digital content, including online Role Model videos and downloadable classroom resources, to help educators teach the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion. So, what is my Diversity Role Models story? Even though I'm bisexual, I didn't have a positive story for young people to be motivated by. So, how could I help? Thanks to the great team at Diversity Role Models (especially Rosalyn Bruno & Robert Sykes!!) I found my story. It took many years for me to embrace my sexuality, but being a woman? I've always been proud of that! Telling this story reminded me I have always sought to help others feel happier, safer and more alive. I want everyone to feel that they belong in this World. They deserve to live as their true authentic selves. I hope my story can do that. 🌈🌟 Diversity Role Models Welcomes New Trustees! 📢 We're excited to announce the appointment of six exceptional individuals to our Board of Trustees. Each brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and diversity to accelerate our mission to promote understanding and acceptance of individual differences and end LGBTQ+ bullying in schools. Our new trustees are: • Neil Feinson OBE: Ex-Civil Servant and former Deputy Director Trade in Goods for Department for International Trade • Kelly Higson: Global DE&I, Culture, and Wellbeing Leader, formerly at Peloton • Daniel Hughes: Media and Communications Expert and former political advisor • Ross McKellar: Finance Professional and DE&I Leader in the energy sector • Dena Tahmasebi: Global Corporate Communications, Public Relations, DE&I Advisor and former BBC journalist They join Symon Wheelhouse He/They who also became a Diversity Role Models Trustee and advisor in June this year. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our departing trustees, Amanda Whiteside (former Chair) and Steve Sutton (former Secretary) for their years of work supporting the Charity. We’re extremely grateful for their valuable contributions during their tenures. Christopher Drennen, a former Trustee and Interim CEO of the Charity, has been appointed Chair, and Daniela Grasso, a current Trustee, has been appointed a Vice Chair, of the Board of Trustees alongside Vice Chair Heidi Mallace. ♿🌈 During Disability Pride Month we want to highlight the importance of recognising that not all disabilities are visible. Some people may have a hidden physical disability or be neurodiverse or have other unseen challenges. For young disabled people in schools, this can be particularly difficult as teachers and other pupils may not recognise the challenges they are facing. In our recent Diversity Role Model Research and Impact Report, we found that disabled students were 84% more likely to agree that bullying takes place related to disabilities. Students consistently identified disability and LGBTQ+ as the areas of diversity which were least covered by the school curriculum. 📚🌈 We celebrate our volunteer Role Models like Charlie, for being a visible example to young people and sharing her story in classrooms about having a hidden disability in our Diversity Role Models workshops. We are all different – some people have visible or invisible disabilities and others may be LGBTQ+ or have some other point of difference. It is important that we recognise this and be mindful of the way we treat those whose disabilities are not on show. 💖🤝 We encourage all teachers to make their classrooms an inclusive space where everyone can embrace their differences and can thrive.
