BIG DATA IS WATCHING YOU – Charles Darwin, Kim Kardashian, and the ‘nano-influencers.’ How SHEIN’s data-powered e-commerce model is revolutionising fashion retail... When it comes to fashion, Gen Z have become Gen S. And the S stands for Shein. Founded in Nanjing, China, by entrepreneur Chris Xu, Shein, now based in Singapore, is the world's largest fashion retailer. (Source: GlobalData Plc) And, according to The Telegraph, the company has ‘overtaken boohoo for the first time in Britain’s retail market, as the Chinese fast-fashion giant recorded revenues of £1.55bn over the past year.’ They are also closing in on ASOS.com. Less a fast-fashion platform, more a hyper-fast fashion phenomenon, its innovative e-commerce model has driven relentless global growth, both in sales and social media engagement. Shein now receives obsessional attention from younger consumers. So, how have they pulled it off? Data strategy specialists, ECDB, may have the answer: ‘What is making Shein stand out from all the other fashion stores is its usage of technology to gauge consumer interest in real time. As a result, the company speeds up production processes and provides instant feedback to manufacturing....https://lnkd.in/gMZfviwW Extract from Human Capital - Drayton’s business magazine #ecommerce #fastfashion #shein

Diversity and inclusion has become essential components of modern business practices, profoundly impacting the grocer/food and drink sector. Promoting D&I within business not only fosters a more equitable work environment but also enhances innovation, employee satisfaction, and overall business performance. What is the difference between diversity and inclusion you might ask? Diversity in an organisation refers to its demographic makeup, encompassing various aspects such as race, gender, disability etc. Inclusion, on the other hand, refers to how an organisation ensures all employees feel valued, respected and supported. Some great examples of businesses that have implemented effective initiatives include: ▪️ In 2008, Sainsbury's’s launched the You Can initiative, which supports people who otherwise might struggle to find a job, including those with disabilities. ▪️ Tesco, Sainsbury's and Nestlé were in the Times Top 50 of employers for gender equality 2023. ▪️ lululemon have parenthood program and support groups: global gender-neutral parenthood program includes paid leave of up to six months for global employees at all levels based on tenure for maternity, paternity, and adoption leaves. ▪️ Diageo established employee resource groups for different ethnicities, including the Black Inclusion Network and the Asian Affinity Network. These are just a few examples we've come across. Feel free to share your own initiatives — we'd love to hear about them. #D&I #diversity #inclusion

They will be ditching the plastic tub and all in favour of the paper tub. Nestlé have produced about 200,000 of the paper tubs and they can be found in selected Tesco stores. This move that has the potential to cut CO2 emissions for the brand significantly. The biggest plus point being once the box is empty it can be put in the recycling along with all the empty wrappers. - Tesco to provide £4 million of fruit and vegetables to 400 schools this year. The scheme is focusing on areas with higher levels of free school meals, as data shows families with lower income struggle to afford a heathier diet. Up to 140,000 pupils will receive at least 1 piece of fruit or vegetable a day, giving their diets a healthy and nutritious boost. The 400 schools that are taking part will be able to shop for the fruit and vegetables in stores local to their school. - Greggs opens champagne bar ‘inspired by 1920s Paris wine bars’. A compelling Drapers article exploring the evolving landscape of retail, highlighting the shifting preferences of industry employees. Post-pandemic, senior staff are reassessing how they work, with a stronger focus on achieving a good work-life balance and fostering a positive culture. These aspects are seen as important, if not more, than salary. Nicola Wensley says “One of the biggest challenges facing fashion CEOs at the moment is how to attract and retain top talent,” Valuing people is a big factor in staff deciding to stay. Included is an interesting case study by Lyle & Scott and how they handled employee's preference to working from home. #retail #seniorstaff #worklifebalance
