🌳 Almost half a million trees planted, and so much more! Today we're releasing our 2023/24 Impact Report, which tots up the incredible work done by our Rivers Trust Movement all across the UK and Ireland over the past 12 months. Our rivers are in crisis, but there are many things that can be done to help restore them to their natural function. The Impact Report includes just some of the highlights and case studies of the past year, from restoring freshwater pearl mussel populations and creating weir bypasses to allow fish passage, to partnering with British Rowing to more deeply engage a community of river champions, and launching our Big River Watch citizen science initiative. And this year, as we celebrate 20 years of The Rivers Trust umbrella organization and 30 years of the first trust that eventually led to the formation of our movement (West Country Rivers Trust), we're also looking back over the long-term impact of our collective work. Last week, our CEO Mark Lloyd and our Director of Communications and Advocacy Tessa Wardley had the pleasure of attending the launch event for the Commonwealth at 75 book, held in the iconic Westminster Abbey and hosted by the History Of Parliament Trust. Commonwealth at 75 explores the origins, history, and lasting influence of the Commonwealth, marking its 75th anniversary by recognising the individuals and organisations that have played a key role in its continued success. "We are delighted to be featured in this beautiful book celebrating 75 years of the Commonwealth. The entry highlights our own 20-year anniversary supporting the Rivers Trust Movement, working in partnership and delivering evidence-based solutions for our rivers and communities for a future in which both can thrive together." - Tessa Wardley, Director of Communications and Advocacy at The Rivers Trust.

Bid for a future for wild Atlantic salmon and their environment. Our 2024 Auction is now live at astauction.org ! 🐟 Every bid helps us continue our work to secure long-term species recovery. Our working strategy has three pillars: 🔬 EVIDENCE: Designing and delivering the research needed to understand why salmon are declining and what we can do about it. 🐟 SOLUTIONS: Putting science into action on the ground via our Core River partnerships to demonstrate successful restoration. 🤝 PARTNERSHIP: Establishing watershed-scale partnerships to energise wild salmon recovery efforts at scale. Together we can make a difference. 🙌

How can Labour rescue Britain's rivers without breaking the bank? Last month at the Labour Party Conference, The Rivers Trust brought together a panel of experts and explored how nature-based solutions can help the UK's new Government to clean up our rivers, lakes, and seas. 🌊 The panel, including Rivers Trust CEO Mark Lloyd, Minister for Water Emma Hardy, and other sector leaders, emphasised the importance of collaboration and catchment-scale solutions to not only protect our water but also strengthen the economy and enhance community wellbeing. It’s been just over a year that we’ve been working with British Rowing and yesterday was a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved together too with River Action UK - a collaboration also known as the Rowing Clean Water Partnership. At the British Rowing headquarters in Hammersmith, we connected with a range of organisations involved in making the sport more sustainable, and began planning our next big moves for working together to protect our rivers. Thanks for hosting us Rachel Dulai and Alexandra Lily Fraser!

🎧 Countryfile does Big River Watch! In this week's episode of BBC Countryfile Magazine's podcast, The Plodcast, Emma Brisdion took Fergus Collins for a walk along the River Avon near Bath to discuss the state of our rivers. He and Emma even stopped to survey the river and watch fish jump as part of the September Big River Watch. Find episode 267 of The Plodcast on all podcast platforms, or click the link in our bio to listen and join us on the riverbank! https://lnkd.in/eRsN4YHN #bigriverwatch #togetherforrivers #rivers #nature #podcast #ukpodcast #countryfile #naturepodcast #naturerestoration

A brand new river! Still work to do, but after years of graft we’ve finally opened up this new channel, which will develop into pristine chalk stream habitat. Believe it or not, this is a man-made fish pass! #ChalkStream #RiverRestoration #FishPassage #WillTravelForGravel
