🚨 Floods and droughts can have devastating effects on local communities, particularly in regions with unreliable early warning systems. Therefore, #HorizonEU research project SEED-FD aims to enhance the global prediction of extreme hydrological events. 🛰️ Building on the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (#CEMS), the project integrates #satellite data and local micro-sensors to enhance the accuracy of flood and drought forecasts. 📽️ Watch the new video to learn all about the project's ambitious mission. EU Space | Magellium | EU Science, Research and Innovation | European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF | Copernicus ECMWF #EUSpaceResearch #EUSpace #Copernicus
🎥 How is SEED-FD shaping the future of #flood and #drought #forecasting to strengthen #DisasterResilience worldwide? 😊 In our first video, researchers from Magellium, JRC (EU Science, Research and Innovation), International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF, and Politecnico di Milano share their insights into the project’s objectives and approach. SEED-FD focuses on three key objectives: 💧 Enhancing hydrological models – improving the representation of wetlands, reservoirs, and groundwater flows 📡 Integrating satellite and in-situ data – combining Earth Observation and local micro-stations for more accurate forecasts 📊 Expanding forecasting capabilities – developing new tools to predict extreme flood and drought events 🌍 The video also explains the project's structure, starting with a development phase followed by a validation phase, to test, refine, and scale these advancements for global impact. 🤝By improving early warning systems, SEED-FD helps communities better prepare for extreme weather events, reducing risks to lives, infrastructure, and economies. 🎬 Watch now and get first-hand insights from the researchers behind SEED-FD! #seed_fd #hydrology #EUSpaceResearch #HorizonEU #HaDEA
