European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites. Monitoring weather and climate since 1986.
Info
EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment from space. We operate a system of meteorological satellites that observe the atmosphere and ocean and land surfaces – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This data is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's member and cooperating states in Europe, as well as other users worldwide. The service provided by EUMETSAT helps to enhance and safeguard the daily lives of European citizens. They aid meteorologists in identifying and monitoring the development of potentially dangerous weather situations and in issuing timely forecasts and warnings to emergency services and local authorities, helping to mitigate the effects of severe weather and protecting human life and property. This information is also critical to the safety of air travel, shipping and road traffic, and to the daily business of farming, construction and many other industries. Account monitored Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00 CET. For general enquiries, please contact: press@eumetsat.int For user support, please contact: ops@eumetsat.int

What a great way to end the 17th European Space Conference! This afternoon, we signed contribution agreements on the Africa-EU Space Partnership Programme with African Space Agency European Space Agency - ESA EUMETSAT and European Commission This action reinforces our commitment to the World Meteorological Organization's #EarlyWarnings4All initiative. We are looking forward to implementing this action and to putting our many years of experience in providing and co-designing EO-based weather and climate data products and services to these strategic stakeholders.

💻 🛜 🛰️ Are Europe's efforts to pursue autonomy in the space and digital domains interlinked? Can Europe ensure sovereign management of large amounts of satellite data with its own infrastructure? The lineup of expert speakers featured in the session on "Data accessibility and Management: Machine Learning, AI and cloud solutions" shared insights into satellite data accessibility, storage and processing solutions in a context of global competition, where powers are investing massively to achieve increasingly powerful capabilities in the digital domain. The panel brought together: 🔵 Bjoern Juretzki, Head of Unit for Data Policy and Innovation, DG CONNECT, European Commission 🔵 Phil Evans, Director-General, EUMETSAT Roberto Mulatti, Managing Director for Space, Serco Europe 🔵 Uwe. Marquard, Director of European Space Programmes, T-Systems International 🔵 Vincent-Henri Peuch, Director for Engagement with the EU, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF This session was moderated by Marie-Myrtille Marichal, Public Affairs Director at Business Bridge Europe - logos #EuropeanSpaceConf

Launch Update: Metop-SGA1 Scheduled for August 2025 EUMETSAT and ARIANESPACE have signed an updated agreement to bring forward the launch of Metop Second Generation – A1 to August 2025. Metop-SGA1 is the first satellite to be launched as part of the EUMETSAT Polar System – Second Generation programme. The spacecraft will deliver critical weather, climate and air quality data to protect lives and improve livelihoods. Metop-SGA1 also carries the European Union’s Copernicus Sentinel-5 mission, and will be launched aboard Arianespace’s Ariane 6 rocket from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. In addition, the Meteosat Third Generation – Imager 2 (MTG-I2) satellite, the third spacecraft in the MTG programme that will complete a groundbreaking three satellite constellation of next-generation geostationary satellites, and the Metop-SGB1 satellite are scheduled for launch on Ariane 6 in 2026 under existing contracts with Arianespace. Dr Phil Evans, EUMETSAT Director-General, said: “This agreement builds on our long-standing collaboration with Arianespace and highlights the vital role of European space industry in the successful delivery of our programmes. Metop-SGA1, Metop-SGB1 and MTG-I2, developed in partnership with the European Space Agency and industry, will deliver enhanced weather and environmental data to protect lives and improve livelihoods. With Arianespace’s expertise and outstanding facilities, we look forward to these satellites becoming operational and soon providing these critical data for EUMETSAT’s member states and beyond.” #EUSpace #MetOp #Sentinel5 #Copernicus #EarthObservation

🚨 The power and fury of our #weather. This is #StormÉowyn hitting #Ireland and the #UnitedKingdom with hurricane-equivalent wind speeds, as seen from EUMETSAT’s #Meteosat-10 geostationary weather satellite today at 10:45 UTC. ❗ ❗ Met Éireann reported a new record-breaking gust of 183 km/h and an average wind speed of 135 km/h (provisional figures) at Mace Head. (Previous record was 1945). 🙏 Thank you to WMO's 2nd Vice President Eoin Moran and the entire staff of Met Éireann and the Met Office for your life-saving forecasts and top-level #RedAlert warnings. Please stay safe everyone! #EarlyWarningsForAll
