The NBS has released its Sustainable Futures Report for 2024, developed in collaboration with The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The report highlights the UK construction sector's growing focus on decarbonisation and building sustainably, revealing a significant increase in the number of projects with environmental objectives and an improved success rate in achieving these goals compared to previous years. Key findings from the report are: - 70% of construction projects now incorporate sustainability targets - A 13% increase in net-zero projects compared to the previous report - A 16% growth in the number of organisations measuring their carbon footprint, with 70% now doing so It’s clear the construction industry is taking the need to reduce emissions seriously. This needs to accelerate if the UK is to achieve #NetZero by 2050. At Ecocem, we have developed and produced numerous #LowCarbonCement technologies for over 20 years and our products have been used in the construction of some of the UK’s most iconic buildings and projects such as HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Stadium and the Port of Dover Harbour. ACT, our latest innovation, is a scalable low carbon cement technology that can deliver a 70% reduction in emissions while delivering the durability, workability and strength required by any concrete it is used to make. To date we have prevented over 18 million tonnes of CO2 from entering Earth’s atmosphere. Ecocem can lead the way. Follow us.

Low-carbon, low-clinker cements have the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2030. Our Research and Innovation team has made great strides in accelerating the development and scalability of low-carbon alternatives through the use of SCMs (supplementary cementitious materials). In this article by World Cement, our Director of Research and Innovation, Roberta Alfani, discusses strategies for the widespread adoption of carbon-reducing cements. Reduce clinker content.... the take away from the 2nd International Conference in Innovation in Low Carbon Cement and Concrete at University of London with the Institute of Concrete Technology. I think every paper started with the same introduction about the high carbon impact of clinker but many offered novel and different approaches in material science that could be adopted to reduce the clinker content in cement and concrete. Well done to the students, researches, keynotes, organisers and fellow sponsors for an excellent event. It was nice to support this event with my colleagues from Ecocem Global, Mark Till, Matthieu Bertin, Yoann Jainin. When in London... drink tea 🍵 #reduceclinker #lowcarboncement #innovation #sustainability

Following the Breakthrough Energy Summit in London last week, our Founder and Managing Director Donal O’Riain reflected, “it was good to be reminded that the #technology we need already exists. Now we must commit to the changes necessary to accelerate adoption: https://lnkd.in/dMuF_8V6   Concrete generates almost 8% of all global emissions and clinker, the critical ingredient in cement, is responsible for over 90% of emissions from concrete. Rapid and sustained #decarbonisation of the cement sector can make a meaningful difference to reducing CO2.   ➡ The good news is that technology exists today that can deliver a 70% reduction in clinker use, and as a result, in CO2 emissions.   ➡ The need to fast-track decarbonisation is obvious and urgent. Radically reducing cement’s clinker content is the most logical pathway to #SustainableConstruction.   📸: Climate Strategy & Partners     #BESummit24 #FutureOfCement #Cleantech #AdvancingNetZero #Fitfor55 #EUETS

On Wednesday, our European Managing Director, Conor O'Riain, attended the Climate Tech Round Tables Forum at London Tech Week to share his insights on #Decarbonisation and materials innovation in the #Cement industry. It was great to take part in such a fantastic event, which was attended by many innovators, leaders, and policy makers from throughout the climate tech industry and to share our insights on how to accelerate cement decarbonisation at scale. Embodied CO2 in #Construction is 11% of all global emissions and clinker - cement's critical ingredient - is responsible for over half of these. Rapid decarbonisation solutions are essential and #ClinkerReduction is key to this transformation.   Our #LowCarbon cement technology, ACT, is an innovative and scalable solution that can reduce emissions from cement by up to 70%, essentially by removing clinker from the equation: https://lnkd.in/gcjEKnnw   #LTW2024 #LondonTechWeek #ClimateTech #FutureOfCement

Lead, ClimateTech - Informa Tech Founders - London Tech Week

It was fantastic to host such an inspiring afternoon at the Climate Tech Roundtables Forum at London Tech Week yesterday, welcoming 100 leaders & innovators from right across the climate tech ecosystem. James Watson, the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, once said “If you’re the brightest person in the room, then you’re in serious trouble.” Let’s just say, I've never felt safer. I was honoured to welcome our two special guests Lord Callanan and Anousheh Ansari, CEO of XPRIZE. Lord Callanan, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance) at DESNZ explored the ways the UK is scaling up green infrastructure investments and supporting low carbon businesses, emphasising how the transition to a green and sustainable economy goes hand in hand with UK economic growth. We then heard from Anousheh, who gained global recognition in 2006 for becoming the first person of Iranian descent, and the first Muslim woman to go into space following an expedition to the International Space Station. Since 2018 she has led the XPRIZE organisation to significant achievements, awarding over $80m to innovators and launching over $361m in active competitions focused on major global challenges including Climate, Health and Technology. Including $100M prize for carbon removal with The MUSK FOUNDATION. Anousheh shared her insights on the vital role of technology and innovation in finding climate solutions and the power of incentivising innovators to solve the world's great challenges. We then held a series of nine separate roundtable discussions, featuring leading Climate Tech Founders, investors, academics, business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts from a range of industries. A huge thank you everyone who joined us and, of course, to our brilliant moderators for leading such a remarkable series of discussions: ⚡ Energy Innovation - Rt Hon Chris Skidmore Former U.K. Energy and Clean Growth Minister. Chair Net Zero Review 🚲 Sustainable Mobility - Rikesh Shah Former Head of Sustainability at TfL ✨ AI & Climate Data Insights - Iggy Bassi Founder & CEO earthena ai ♻ Circularity Systems - Douglas Johnson-Poensgen Founder & CEO Circulor 🏡 Retrofitting Housing - Emma Fletcher MRICS Director of Low Carbon Housing Octopus Energy 🏢 Decarbonising Commercial Buildings - Ami Kotecha Chair of UK PropTech Association (UKPA) 🏗 Innovation in Construction - Christian Hernandez Gallardo Co-Founder & Partner 2150 🧱 Materials Innovation - James Baker CEng FIET FRSA CEO Graphene@Manchester The University of Manchester 🍄 Adaptive Food Systems - Pru Ashby Head of Sustainability London & Partners 👀 Look out for our upcoming report with all the insights next month.
