This month has been World Menopause Awareness Month! 🌍 To mark the occasion, WPP held a thought-provoking panel on "Menopause in the community". Diversity Media Sales is proud to launch our first Reclaiming Narratives series "Our Fathers" sponsored by Google Pixel 9 Pro and presented by entrepreneur and apprentice winner; Tim Campbell MBE. The series features our fathers; Marvyn H. Founder of Dope Black Dads, @Colin James Founder of GANGS UNITE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY, Geoffrey Williams Global VP Colleague Attraction and Inclusion at Burberry and new father Mijarhor Kayoma as they share their lived experiences as parents, the challenges and negative stereotypes associated with Black fatherhood and what they are doing to reclaim that narrative positively. Discussing themes around new fatherhood, adoption, LGBTQ+ families, mental health, positive role models and masculinity. A common stereotype about Black fathers is that they are disengaged, irresponsible, or not involved in their children's lives, however, a study conducted in 2021 by Understanding Society "UK Household Longitudinal Study" found that "76% of Black Caribbean fathers and 82% of Black African fathers in the UK live with their children, either as part of a couple or as a lone parent." Sharing the experiences of these fathers' lives is an important step in addressing the conversation around Black Fatherhood, dispelling the negative stereotypes and promoting the positive narratives which are often overlooked. The series was produced by Diversity Media Sales in association with Derren L. and the DARE Pictures team, a Black led production company. It was crucial to ensure the authentic voice of Black Father’s and the Black community to deliver against the BHM UK 2024 theme, #ReclaimingNarratives. Within this project 75% of contributors are from the Black community. 50% of which are Fathers and 88% of those are Black fathers. Our Fathers is available to watch on wedotv now.
