  • We can't believe that it's the last day of #WomensHistoryMonth already! Throughout this month, it's been a pleasure to spotlight some of the amazing women within the world of events. 🌏 The theme of this year's #InternationalWomensDay was Accelerating Action. To us, that consists of more than giving the women of events a blanket shout out on #IWD itself - we wanted to share their stories. Everybody who got involved with the campaign had a unique background, and this cut right to the heart of what we're trying to convey: proof that there are infinite pathways with great potential for any woman looking to join this industry. 💪 Across the responses we got, there were only two things that all of these great women had in common: ✨ They found success by staying true to themselves, and being persistent even when facing challenges. 💚 They genuinely love this industry and the people in it! Whether you're an events veteran or newcomer, we hope that you enjoyed reading all of these fascinating stories throughout March, and that you learned something new from each of these individuals. Thank you all for your involvement: Laura Rosinska, Karina Marshall, KT Sonnen, Hania Zadruzynska, Karen Edwards, Valentina Ruffoni, Kirsty Little, Amanda Morris, Nika Brunet Milunovic, MBA, Liz Whittingham

Today's spotlight goes to Liz Whittingham, Head of Operations & CX at GovNet! Liz entered the events industry 17 years ago, entirely through word of mouth. She met agency CEO Sara Taylor, who saw something in Liz and threw her straight in the deep end working with large organisations. It was the best decision that Liz had ever made - she learned fast, took risks and discovered her passion for operational excellence in events! 🏆 Her favourite part about events is the constant evolution; no two events, clients, or challenges are the same. Whether it’s working across operations, client relations, or product development, Liz thrives on problem-solving, cross-team collaboration, and finding ways to maximize profit while delivering incredible experiences; the pace is relentless, but so is the reward. 💼 Liz was once told that flexible working in events was impossible, that the industry’s pace, demands, and culture meant you had to be in the room, at the desk, or on-site 24/7. Eight years later, here she is, proving that wrong. She's structured work to fit in with her life, not the other way around. And guess what? The work still gets done, the teams still thrive, and the events still succeed. In the past, Liz has also been told to “tone it down” to get ahead. A mentor saw her potential, but believed she needed to be less of an extrovert to succeed. She stood firm and said no. Success isn’t about fitting a mold, it’s about owning your strengths, leading authentically, and showing that there are many ways to thrive in this industry. Flexibility, individuality, and impact can go hand in hand! 🤝 When times are hard, Liz falls back on the Two Arrow's teaching of "Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional" - while we can't always avoid life's hardships (the first arrow), we can control our reaction (the second arrow). How we respond to adversity makes all the difference. For the future of the event industry, Liz is pushing for a global shift from transactional experiences to immersive, purpose-driven events. We’re moving beyond just logistics and execution into designing experiences that build real connections, deliver value, and drive long-term impact; events are no longer just ‘moments’ - they’re ecosystems that extend far beyond the event itself! 🌏 Her two biggest career inspirations have been Mischelle Choinski, an ex-Gartner leader who recognised her potential and championed pay equity when it mattered most, and Adele, who has built a global empire while staying true to her roots, proving that authenticity and success can go hand in hand!

  • Meet Nika Brunet Milunovic, MBA, Founder of Calm Nest Collective and Event & Sustainability Manager! 🏆 Nika got into the industry 11 years ago through meeting her husband, and absolutely loves the energy, connection and impact of events; they bring people together in meaningful, transformative ways. 💚 Working her way up in this industry as a woman comes with it's challenges; Nika still remembers sitting on a panel at a very large music conference where she, along with a female colleague, barely had a chance to speak - their two male colleagues completely took over the stage (and argued the entire time!). It was a perfect example of how often women's voices are sidelined, even when they're meant to be part of the conversation. Beyond specific moments like that, Nika believes women usually have to work twice as hard to be taken seriously, especially in leadership and decision-making spaces. 🌿On a positive note, Nika is most excited about the event industry's growing focus on sustainability, inclusivity and well-being. There’s a real shift happening - people are recognizing that events aren’t just about scale and spectacle; they’re about creating meaningful, accessible, and human-centered experiences. A fun fact about Nika is that she was originally a social worker who ended up in events, and is now working to bring events back to social impact! It's a full-circle journey that proves that you can merge passion with purpose in unexpected ways. 🛞 One primary influence on her career is Gill Tee, co-founder of Black Deer Festival of Americana.

  • As of last month, new industry research has valued the current gamification market at a whopping US$43 Billion, with this number set to soar. 📈   These figures cover a range of sectors from healthcare to entertainment, and the forecasted market trends are telling in where events should be innovating their experiences, particularly when trying to attract Gen-Z attendees. Here are just some of the key takeaways: 🤝 Gamified brand elements boost consumer engagements and build strong brand relationships. 🎲 VR & AR are being utilised to provide gamified training experiences for personal development.  💸 An increase in gamified E-commerce is set to drive sales and improve customer experiences cross sector. If you haven't started considering how Gamification could enhance attendee engagement with your event (both pre and post the launch date), you're a step behind; this technology isn't going anywhere. Meet Kirsty Little, Freelance Event, Production & Crew Manager! 🎉 After studying Contemporary Lens Media at Lincoln University, Kirsty moved to Hertfordshire to join the world of corporate events and never looked back. She loves the endless variety of the events world - it isn't just something she enjoys, it's what fuels her. She thrives on the ever-changing nature of her work, and enjoys the diversity of experiences and people within the industry. Spending her summers on green-field sites, immersed in the fast-paced, hands-on world of outdoor events, brings a sense of adventure and fulfilment. When the seasons change she shifts into corporate exhibitions, to hone a different set of skills focusing on structure, logistics, and precision. In between, she runs her own sustainability company - she couldn't ask for more! At the start of Kirsty's career, a comment from a line manager nearly derailed her. He told Kirsty, quite matter-of-factly, that as a short, blonde woman, she wouldn’t get far in this industry - no one would listen to or respect her. Eighteen years on, Kirsty has proved him wrong. She's still short, still a woman, and still blonde (albeit slightly darker), but she's thriving in her career, expanding her knowledge, and mentoring others who now look to her for inspiration. Kirsty feels like progress has been made in the industry, in particular with the presence of NOWIE - The Network of Women in Events CIC, but that there's still work to do in breaking down biases and ensuring that talent and expertise speak louder than gender. What excites Kirsty most about this industry is both her own development and the next generation of event professionals. She's passionate about growing into a leading figure in events, continuously learning, and expanding her expertise. But even more exciting is watching new talent enter the industry - driven, innovative, and ready to push boundaries. One of Kirsty's biggest inspirations in her career has been Alison Parkin, now one of her oldest friends. With Alison's resilience, honesty, and unwavering passion for the job, Kirsty would have Alison by her side on any event, without question, and would recommend her to anyone looking for a dedicated, experienced event professional. Kirsty's top tip is that no matter how much you plan, something unexpected will always happen - and that’s where the magic is! ✨
