Tuesday 29 October 16:30 Film: The Teacher We are excited to invite you to join us for a screening of the new award-winning Palestinian film 'The Teacher', followed by a discussion with Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Farah Nabulsi. ‘The Teacher’ shows a Palestinian school teacher who struggles to reconcile his risky commitment to political resistance with his emotional support for one of his students and the chance of a new relationship with a volunteer worker. The film is set and shot entirely in the West Bank of militarily occupied Palestine. It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and has garnered over 15 international awards so far. "Education is a lifeline in Gaza" Thank you Ayman Qwaider for such a powerful message, for sharing your personal story of loss, hope and steadfastness. A new study by Cambridge University shows that just 3.5 per cent of aid for Gaza has been invested in education. Without more funding and access to learning, structured play and other forms of support, the report warns, the long-term repercussions for Gaza’s next generation will only worsen. The study also stresses that Palestinians themselves must lead the education recovery. “A ceasefire is the key for the success of any human development activity in Gaza, including education,” the authors write. “Children have seen that the international community will sit idly by as they are killed. This has left them with questions about values that schools and learning aim to instil around humanitarian principles that teachers will have to navigate.” https://lnkd.in/djUQCjFM

Children in Gaza risk losing the equivalent of up to 5 years of education. A new report by the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education, the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre and the Centre for Lebanese Studies in partnership with UNRWA shows how the ongoing war has impacted learning and education in Gaza. In times of conflict, it is paramount to protect children and their right to education. Maintaining children's learning during crises fosters resilience and supports long-term recovery and peace building. #NotATarget
