Non-profit Organization Management

We redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. We are doers. We are a community. We change lives.

About us

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create over two million meals for vulnerable people. We’re thrilled to announce that after years of dedicated campaigning alongside The Felix Project, the Government’s surplus food fund is becoming a reality! This initiative marks a significant step in tackling food waste on UK farms and ensuring surplus food reaches those who need it most. Collaboration will be vital - working across the food industry, charitable redistribution sector, Government, and farmers - to deliver this scheme effectively and at scale. At FareShare, we know the impact of redistributing surplus food: ✅ Reducing food waste’s environmental impact ✅ Improving food security and access to healthy, nutritious meals ✅ Delivering proven social and economic returns for the Treasury We are pleased to support the government’s Circular Economy Strategy, and are glad that the government has acknowledged the role of surplus redistribution organisations, and the wider charity sector in its development and implementation. It’s key that we act quickly together to launch this scheme in time to maximise the impact of this initiative during the British growing season and to strengthen community ties.

  • This year’s Food Waste Action theme is Buy Loose, Waste Less – so we thought we would celebrate the different ways that we work with some of our partners and, where possible, receive certain fresh produce in bulk, helping to reduce the amount of packaging used 💚   At FareShare when we rescue surplus fresh produce during the harvesting and grading process, we often get these offers in bulk containers from our produce partners. This means that less packaging is used to transport the fruit and vegetables, and we also try to use recycled bulk containers where possible to minimise our carbon footprint. For certain fresh produce that cannot be transported in bulk, we try to take this produce loose in returnable trays.     In February and March, we received a large range of fresh produce in bulk – from carrots and cabbages to swedes and sweet potatoes, and beetroots and butternuts. Thank you so much to the partners below for working with us for providing this delicious fresh produce whilst helping reduce the amount of packaging used in our processes 👇   Dungait Farms, F Friend & Sons, Freshgro, Rush Group, Strawson Limited, WINDY RIDGE VEG LIMITED

Happy St. Patricks Day! Today we are highlighting the incredible partnership between FareShare NI and Finnebrogue which began all the way back in 2011! 💚 🤝 In 2024 Finnebrogue provided over 26 tonnes of sausages, bacon and meat substitutes, the equivalent of 62,619 meals which helped to support 141 charities and community groups that receive food from FareShare Northern Ireland. 💚 Through their partnership with FareShare Northern Ireland, in 2024 Finnebrogue prevented 56.2 tonnes of CO2e from being wasted. 📸 This photo features some of the products that Finnebrogue kindly provided, being sorted by volunteers Mary, Alison, and Vera in the warehouse. Thank you so much to Finnebrogue for your amazing support, helping to turn surplus food into social good 💚

  • Recently, FareShare’s Lisa Darbyshire and Bronagh Rigney, along with FareShare South West’s Ben Evans visited Yeo Valley Organic’s Crewkerne site in the heart of Somerset. They were visiting to look at opportunities across the organic soup and yoghurt production sites. Yeo Valley is an amazing support to FareShare and has built a strong local relationship with FareShare South West during the course of our 10-year partnership. It was a great day and we can’t wait to work more closely with the site!

Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, we are celebrating the incredible women in the FareShare Supply Chain & Logistics team 💚 The team is a vital part of FareShare’s operations, ensuring the food gets across the Network efficiently. As part of International Women’s Day we asked some of them for a piece of advice that they would give to another woman who would like to get into the industry? 💬 “Apply for roles! Studies have shown that women are less likely to apply for jobs that they don’t feel 100% qualified for, whereas men are more likely to. Showcasing your existing skills, while demonstrating your passion and drive to learn will grab the attention of the recruiter, especially as most of the detail is learned on induction” - Sophie Orpen, Senior Supply Chain & Logistics Manager 💬 “Don’t be put off by what you already might know about logistics. It is easy to feel out of your depth when talking to people who have been in the industry for a long time and are using words/phrases that you’ve never heard of. The main attributes you need in this role is to have a problem-solving brain, a good work ethic, and be easy to communicate with. Everything else can be learnt on the job.” - Lauren Grayson, Supply Chain & Logistics Coordinator 💬 “I think the biggest thing is having the belief that you deserve to be in the role just as much as anyone else including a man. Holding on to the idea that a field is male-dominated, even if it is statistically, already puts you on the back foot of thinking it’s not a role for a woman when that is not true. Nearly all industries are male-dominated purely for the historical reason of men being the providers but the actual day-to-day tasks are more based on your interests and learnt skills rather than gender.” - Mary Beaty, Supply Chain & Logistics Officer 💬 “I think the best piece of advice for other women coming into this role – who maybe like myself have little experience - is to stay strong in what you think is the best decision is. It’s important to listen to your team and the advice that other people with more experience give, but at the end of the day stay firm in what you want to happen. Don’t let people walk over you and don’t take anything too personally.” - Eden Parry, Supply Chain and Logistics Coordinator #IWD2025

This year, the Consumer Goods Forum hosted their Sustainable Retail Summit in London – bringing together leaders across the industry to talk about challenges and innovations in the sustainability space. Tesco hosted a special session focusing on the impact of the Tesco and FareShare partnership, showcasing how we work together to reduce food waste. Over 100 delegates had the opportunity to visit a Tesco store to see the impact of the Community Food Connection programme, where local FareShare charities are linked with their nearest Tesco to collect store level surplus. They also visited two incredible charities that receive food via FareShare, Restorative Justice For All and Pecan. RJ4All is a community charity based in Rotherhithe, London, focused on promoting equality, social justice, and restorative practices. RJ4All receive food from FareShare via Tesco’s Community Food Connection end of day surplus programme, as well as regular deliveries of surplus food from The Felix Project in London. They offer a weekly food bank, a community fridge and Cook&Connect surplus food cooking workshops for the community. Alongside food services, RJ4All provide weekly initiatives including free gym access, mending classes, therapy sessions and more. Pecan is a community charity based in Peckham, London, committed to empowering individuals and families facing challenges. Pecan receives weekly food deliveries from FareShare partner The Felix Project to power their varied services, which include Southwark Food Bank, Women’s hubs and employment support. It was a brilliant opportunity for delegates to understand more about surplus food, redistributed by FareShare and Tesco, and how it makes a huge positive impact on the local community. Thank you so much to Tesco for spotlighting our wonderful partnership. It was amazing to celebrate the work that we do together, as well as connect with leaders across the industry 💚 Kris Gibbon-Walsh Li Brookman Ellie Weston

  • It's Pancake Day, so we thought it would be a fun time for a poll... Have a guess below. And bonus points in the comments if you can have a guess how tall all of the pancakes would be stacked in comparison to famous landmarks! 👀
