  • 🚨BREAKING: Almost 1 in 5 people claiming Universal Credit and disability benefits have used a food bank in the last month. Hunger and hardship are already at record levels, and social security cuts risk pushing even more people to food banks. This shouldn't be the case in one of the richest countries in the world. Everyone should be able to afford to live with dignity. The UK Government must commit to an Essentials Guarantee, to make sure everyone can at the very least afford the essentials we all need like food, bills, and toiletries.

  • Life costs MORE if you’re disabled: - Extra energy costs for medical equipment - Accessible transport or car adaptations - Specialist services and therapies - Paying more to get the weekly shop delivered - Having to pay for a carer - Higher heating bills That's why the government's proposed cuts to disability support would be so devastating. ❗ But there's still time to stop this. Email your MP now 👉 https://bit.ly/4kFR5Bj

  • It’s Waitrose food drive week! 💚 From today until Sunday 23rd March, you can support your local food bank in Waitrose stores by donating food and other essential items. Look out for the collection point in your local store - and for food bank staff and volunteers, who can let you know what items they need most. Thank you for your support.

  • Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger, and now the government is talking about making huge cuts to disabled people’s social security. These cuts aren’t about helping people overcome barriers to work. They’re about making short-term savings, by slashing the incomes of disabled people who most need our support. There’s still time to stop this ‼️ Email your MP using the tool below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gNwRCaSA

    • [Image description: A screenshot of a messaging app with a conversation about news of planned disability cuts. The discussion includes expressions of concern and confusion about living costs and needing to talk.]
  • ❗ A plan to slash disability support is cruel and risks pushing more people to the doors of food banks. 77% of people claiming Universal Credit and disability benefits have gone without essentials, like food and heating, in the last 6 months. Cutting support will have further devastating impacts. But there's still time to show the UK government that this plan is short-sighted and shameful. And you can help. Email your MP now and urge them to call on Keir Starmer to think again 👉 https://bit.ly/4kFR5Bj #Charity #Disability

    • A screenshot of a text on a notes app. It reads: The UK government is planning to slash disability support. We cannot let this happen. Email your MP now.
  • 📢 The UK government is talking about making HUGE cuts to disabled people’s social security. Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger, and these cuts risk pushing even more people to food banks. Things don't have to be this way. There’s still time to show the government this plan is wrong. Are you with us?

  • When Siobhan's dad became ill, she had to quit her job to become his full-time carer. For a year, they had no income and no support from the social security system. Siobhan had no option but to turn to a food bank. A volunteer welcomed her, gave her a cup of tea, and provided her with advice and emergency food. But it shouldn't have to be this way. When we face tough times, our social security system should provide just that - security 💚 #Charity #Carers

    • A graphic with two screenshots of a video where
Siobhan shares her experience of turning to a food bank. The top screenshot shows Siobhan helping her dad walk through their house. The subtitles read 'He was declared fit for work, and then we were both just left with nothing.' The second screenshot shows a close up of Siobhan's face. The subtitles read 'We went a whole year without any income.'
  • Too many older people in the UK are missing out on money they are entitled to because our social security system is so complex. In some cases, people might need to fill in more than five repetitive and complex forms. The longest form – Pension Credit – has 243 questions! The latest report from Independent Age highlights how the UK Government can make the system more accessible. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e-7hEtXQ
