The Fathom team have been on the road again, this time in sunny Leeds as sponsors of the Jacobs Flood Modeller conference. It’s been a fantastic two days of connecting with a wide-range of industry leaders and discovering the latest trends in flood modelling. Not forgetting, Gavin Lewis, Fathom’s Head of Engineering, giving a deeper dive into Fathom’s latest data integration in Flood Modeller with Stuart Marshfield from PJA showing how Fathom’s data can support projects on the ground. It's been an exciting period for our financial markets team! From attending New York Climate Week to exhibiting in Amsterdam, last week they were at Climate Stress Testing Europe having some important conversations with risk professionals on the latest advancements in stress testing methodologies. Dr. Natalie Lord, Principal Climate Scientist, presented on advanced modeling techniques for climate risk stress testing, particularly in scenarios with limited historical data. Her discussion highlighted the severity of extreme weather events caused by climate change, the impact its having on financial institutions, and the critical need for climate stress testing in today's environment to mitigate risk and prevent financial loss. #ClimateStressTestingEurope #ClimateResilience #ClimateAdaption #stresstesting #climatechange

Did you know that today is Global Cat Day? And there ain’t no party like a cat party! A Global Flood Cat party that is. In case you missed it, earlier this month the Fathom team was very proud to launch our new Global Flood Cat model to the world. After many years of hard work behind the model, we were pleased to get together and have a small but much deserved celebration for the launch. In keeping with the cat theme the team sported cat ears, had some cat covered cakes and even listened to some themed cat music. Even Jasper joined in! We want to say a big thanks again to our team and trusted partners who have helped bring the decade long vision of an inland and coastal global flood catastrophe model to life. #GlobalCatDay #floodcatastrophemodel #catmodel

“It’s really difficult to relate a single event to climate change impact” explains our Chairman, Professor Paul Bates CBE FRS to Anna Gordon at TIME magazine for her recent article on last month’s flooding in Europe. Check out the whole article for more of Paul’s insights, why this type of flooding is tricky to attribute to a single cause, and the other factors leading to such severe and devastating floods. When Fathom’s simulations become reality. This week, we’ve felt the impact of the soon-to-land Hurricane Milton, due to hit Florida later this week. As our team landed in Tampa, alerts began to sound that the now category 4 storm was gaining mass. Having only enjoyed one evening at the annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) convention, our team has joined other residents across the state in evacuating to safety. Below are images displaying NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s simulated coastal surge footprints for the Florida area projected to be impacted, including the conference center where our team was staying. If the current surge forecasts hold, Tampa could experience a storm surge of 10-15 feet, a 1-in-500-year flood event according to our US Flood Map. As we await the landfall of Milton, we are grateful to be able to safely return our team home, and continue to monitor the ongoing situation. https://lnkd.in/eNiB45gf Gavin Lewis Anthony Cooper Cassie Tout #milton #hurricane #NOAA #FEMA #USFloodRisk #Tampa #asce
