HMGCC welcomed Science Minister Patrick Vallance to its Milton Keynes office last week, where he learned more about our vital work with industry and academia. Lord Vallance, who was recently appointed Oxford-Cambridge Innovation Champion, made the visit as part of a wider tour to technology and local government sites in the area. During his local tour, Lord Vallance dropped in to HMGCC’s central Milton Keynes office to meet James – the leader of our HMGCC Co-Creation pilot. James was able to present an overview of the important work done by the Co-Creation initiative in offering funding to tech businesses and academia, supporting and enabling them to develop technical solutions for use in national security work. This International Women’s Day, we spoke to Pal, of our Head of Business Development about what #AccelerateAction means to her. She said: “For me accelerating action is about positioning yourself for success: know what you are aiming for and why, then prepare so you can shape decisions, grab opportunities and lean into inspiring others along the way.” #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #AccelerateAction

HMGCC is proud to announce that we have signed up to the Tomorrow's Engineers Code, showing our commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in engineering and technology. The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code was established to increase the number and diversity of young people entering engineering and technology careers and is managed by EngineeringUK. The Code is a growing, collaborative community where members learn from one another, share best practice and commit to four pledges that inspire young people. HMGCC CEO George Williamson said: “We are delighted to have signed up to the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code. HMGCC has a duty to go out and search for future talent, inspiring those who have not had the opportunity to experience the excitement of a career in engineering and technology. We have an established programme of STEM activities, regularly visiting schools to carry out engineering activities with classes and encouraging an interest in these key subjects. "Signing up to the code represents a powerful commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineering talent and we’re excited to play a part in shaping a more inclusive future for the industry” #STEMOutreach #DiversityInSTEM

HMGCC this week hosted an event inviting more than 100 pupils to explore where science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) could take them in the future. The event, run jointly with FCDO Services, saw students from five Milton Keynes schools meet at Bletchley Park Trust to take part in the Innovators at the Parks event. Students participated in a series of fun STEM workshops and were also given the chance to find out more about our apprenticeship opportunities. The event was held to coincide with National Apprenticeships Week, so our apprentices were also on hand to share more about what this career route can offer. Eva, who runs the apprenticeship programme at HMGCC, said: “Applying for an apprenticeship at HMGCC is an amazing opportunity for people at the start of their careers to carry out real work for national security. Our apprentices are immersed in the real work of HMGCC and are given the chance to work alongside, and to learn from, a huge range of world-class tech experts across a range of disciplines. “Taking on an apprenticeship at HMGCC can be life changing, with many of our intake working with us, even after their apprenticeship has come to an end.” HMGCC apprenticeships cover a range of subject areas, including electronics and software development, and are open to those aged 18 and over. The next opportunity to apply will be autumn this year. To find out more about apprenticeships, see https://lnkd.in/ey8qy9j3 #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #HMGCC

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established to promote the critical role women play in science and technology. We asked one of our scientists, Sarah what inspires her about working in science: “For me, science is where curiosity meets discovery. It’s about continually asking questions, even when you think you know the answer. The beauty of working in science is that we all carry our own unique perspective and our own questions. Working within science at HMGCC is all about collaboration and bringing together diverse perspectives in solving complex problems and answering challenging questions.” #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience

Drone detectors, small enough to fit inside a pocket or hand, are sought in a new challenge by HMGCC Co-Creation. The team wants to hear from organisations who are developing miniature devices to detect drones. Organisations are being invited to apply if, over a 12-week period, they can develop and demonstrate technology to meet this funded challenge. For more information, see https://lnkd.in/eGrhaYCA. For a complete list of all our collaborators please visit the Co-Creation page on our website.

HMGCC today welcomes announcements by Chancellor Rachel Reeves which will unleash the extraordinary potential of the Oxford-Cambridge growth corridor. As the UK government’s national security engineering organisation, HMGCC has been working hard with brilliant companies and universities in this area to solve some of the toughest national security challenges. From young to more established companies, we see daily the talent in Oxford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, and the tech ecosystem in and around these cities. We have been supporting this talent with contracts, access to unclassified challenges from the community we serve, support from our world-class engineering teams, and access to our testing and evaluation facilities. Our future lies in doing much more of this. Established in 1938, HMGCC found its own way to Hanslope Park during World War 2, strategically positioned almost exactly between Oxford and Cambridge. And, of course, very close to our neighbours Bletchley Park. In 2025 we are still delighted to be situated at the heart of this part of the country where innovation, research and technological talents are a core part of its identity. https://lnkd.in/eZbZG54r #HMGCC #NationalSecurityEngineering

HMGCC recently welcomed Minister of State for Security Dan Jarvis through its doors to hear more about our critical work for national security. This was the security minister’s first visit to Hanslope Park, where he met our engineers and was given a special tour of our cutting-edge facilities. His visit allowed him to glimpse HMGCC’s newly built Power Sources Centre of Excellence, which commissions and tests a range of power sources for electronic equipment deployed to users across the globe. The centre will provide an important base for collaborative work with partners across government, industry and academia. Another part of the tour included our manufacturing facility, where we explained how our experts problem-solve and craft products for national security missions, creating what is needed. Our work with industry and academia played an important part of the day, with the minister given an overview of work by our HMGCC Co-Creation team.
