As part of our ongoing research with The DisOrdinary Architecture Project—focused on exploring inclusive design in the built environment—this week we visited our second site, Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf Group. The mixed-use scheme is located in the north dock of Canary Wharf, and connects visitors with retail units, transport links, and access to nature and public spaces. The research group is made up of a diverse group of creatives with dynamic disabilities and intersectional perspectives. Their insights will drive the project, exploring lived experiences and embedding a more holistic and inclusive vision for the built environment. #InclusiveDesign #Architecture #Design #AccessibleDesign #DisabilityDesign

Lunar Tower - Designing a Solar Energy Tower for the Lunar South Pole. To develop a sustainable presence on the Moon, Mars, and beyond, will require the installation of significant infrastructure, such as power and communications networks. As part of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I program award, Foster + Partners and Branch Technology are designing and optimizing a 50-metre-tall tower, which could support solar panels to enable power infrastructure for the Lunar South Pole. This short clip visualizes the tower being constructed on the Moon. A scale model of the tower is on display at the practice’s ‘From Earth to Space and Back’ exhibition at the Kennedy Center, until 13 April 2025. The exhibition—which includes scale models, 3D-printed structures and films—asks visitors to imagine a future where humans have left their footprints on Mars, where the thrill of exploring uncharted worlds is within reach, and where technological advancements in space revolutionize life on Earth. 📅 28 March – 13 April 2025 📍 The Kennedy Center, Washington DC Free to attend 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e8D7-y9E #Space #Mars #Lunar #3Dprint #SpaceExploration

Designs for Palas Iași development in Romania revealed. Foster + Partners is designing a green masterplan for Iași, a city in eastern Romania. The masterplan breathes new life into the land around the historic Palace of Culture, strengthening the relationship between the palace and the park, enhancing permeability and connections to the city centre, while creating vibrant shopping streets and extending the park with a variety of new public spaces and amenities. The project also reimagines the Palas Iași mixed-use development, reconnecting the buildings with their surroundings and creating a world-class retail experience for visitors. The practice has worked closely with the real estate developer, IULIUS, to develop the scheme. The neo-Gothic Palace of Culture is located at the centre of the masterplan. The practice’s design celebrates the palace by incorporating new landscaped areas, which unify both sides of the site, and creating a green entranceway from Stefan cel Mare Boulevard. The landscaping includes spectacular water features, sloping lawns, interactive play areas for children, and outdoor event spaces, which provide engaging and relaxing environments for visitors to spend time in. Archaeological remains and historic features are carefully preserved within the landscape for future generations. “The masterplan completely revitalises the heart of the city and improves connections to its centre with generous, tree-lined pedestrian walkways. Greenery and incredible new public spaces are woven through the urban realm, transforming the city experience and reframing the spectacular Palace of Culture.” Stefan Behling, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wRCw3 #Architecture #Design #Innovation #Engineering #Construction #Romania

Last week we welcomed the Unitree G1 humanoid robot to the London campus for a meet and greet with colleagues. Autodiscovery then demonstrated a system that allows a user to remote control the robot to teach it new skills using a Meta Quest 3 headset, mapping the user’s arm movement to the robot’s arms—known as teleoperation. These robots are designed to cater to human-centric tasks, rather than being optimised for specific tasks. The capabilities of humanoid robots is ever evolving. By working with the technology first-hand and learning about their capabilities, we can envision their role in future societies and the built environment. Thank you to Autodiscovery Unitree Robotics. #Robotics #HumanoidRobot #Unitree #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #Technology #Engineering #Automation
