“You can steer yourself in any direction you choose". F4S is proud to make it as easy to prompt career conversations with your children as ordering pizza online. If you are a parent and want to start a career conversation with your child, why not arrange for someone like Nami to have a virtual chat next week? It really is as easy as placing an order online for a pizza, but we'd argue the delivery of career insights from our volunteers has better consequences that may even last a lifetime rather than just to the next meal… Choose your ingredients for your next career conversation now —> click here! https://lnkd.in/e83ehhXz

Thank you to Nami Patel from The Walt Disney Company for giving your time this morning to share your career pathway with children from the UK's Tata Consultancy Services parent network. Your kindness will have helped our young audience contemplate things that will be weighing on their mind, like what they might do after they finish their education and enter the world of work. Conversations like these are brilliant because they facilitate career conversations between parents and children over the summer. However difficult they may be to start, parents play a vital role in career conversations, which can help the next generation be confident that they will find their way. The children (and I!) were fascinated to hear how you grew up with your three sisters in Birmingham before you transitioned to study Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge (Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge) to your first role as a manager at Deloitte for five years, then moved onto finance at Fox Corporation for five years, to now where you lead Strategy and Business Development at Walt Disney, which you do full time, alongside being a Trustee at The Social Mobility Foundation. Your secrets were 1) to use your analytical skills and 2) to allow your curiosity to guide you to where you should be and 3) To expand your roles by putting your hand up so that they suited you better. Your advice was to work hard, focus on learning, and be kind. Wise words, indeed. My favourite quote was the one you gave from Dr. Seuss: "You have brains in your head, You have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself in any direction you choose". Thank you to Ved Sen, head of innovation at Tata Consultancy Services, for giving your time today to share your career pathway with your colleagues and their children from the TCS good growth network around the UK. Your kindness will have helped our young audience contemplate things that will be weighing on their mind, like what they might do after they finish their education and enter the world of work. These conversations facilitate career conversations between parents and children over the summer. They provide an opportunity within the TCS parent populations to provoke essential conversations that can sometimes be difficult to start. However difficult they may be to start, they recognise the vital role of parents in career conversations, and they pave the way for the next generation to be confident that they will find their way. 🔢 We loved how you shared your unusual career pathway, from studying a Bsc at Presidency University, Kolkata and then Business Management at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad to your first jobs in sales, advertising, and then as a correspondent at Business Today Magazine. He then 'fell into' the internet in the mid-90s and went from Product Manager at @Planetasia to VP at a London-based Interactive TV startup that exited, and subsequently from building out the mobile solutions practice at Cognizant, to writing a book (Doing Digital) and finally to now where he heads innovation with TCS in London, solving interesting problems for clients across industries. F4S is proud to be a charity partner of Tata Consultancy Services: working with corporate partners to arrange conversations like this for children in our community takes only a couple of minutes for you via the F4S website - and it is as simple as ordering a pizza from Domino Pizza. If you want to start a conversation with a young person in your family or community about these or similar career roles, why not arrange a (free) call right now for sometime next week? —> click here! https://lnkd.in/e83ehhXz

Great advice —> if you are a parent or a teacher, this would be helpful to share with a young person you know who has completed an internship (or two) this summer. F4S

If you completed an internship this summer, it's time to add it to your LinkedIn profile ✅ Internships can be good for your career — but only if you communicate them to potential employers. Check out this tip sheet for keeping your profile up to date and tag someone who could benefit from it!

Kudos to Rishi Khosla who is the CEO of the #fintech bank OakNorth for encouraging his colleagues to help the next generation understand pathways into important & interesting roles at fintech #scaleup companies. Did you know that 95% of net new jobs are from #scaleups and that they create 4x more jobs than the FTSE 100companies? Thank you to Rose Thomas, Deepesh Thakrar & Rob Pearce from OakNorth who gave your time this morning to share your career pathways with parents & children from around the UK. As it was the week of A-Level results, your kindness will have helped them contemplate things that will be weighing on their mind like what they might do after they finish education and enter the world of work. Thank You. We loved what we learned about the cool roles in one of the UK’s most successful Fintech startups that has lent more than £11bn to ambitious businesses, creating 36,000 jobs & 25,000 new homes! 🔢 Rose gave us a glimpse of the kinds of huge numbers she works with everyday through sharing her career pathway after graduation from University of Warwick to becoming a Commercial Data Analyst OakNorth by drawing on encouragement from people in her family, school and university! https://lnkd.in/epdNAjpR 💵 Deepesh Thakrar, shared why he chose not to go to university, but instead signed up to an employment agency and has never looked back! His first role with Santander was an opportunity to learn more about banking, and he has since risen through the ranks to become Senior Director of Debt Finance at OakNorth where he earned the award of the UK’s best corporate banker! 🐠 Rob Pearce shared his unusual career pathway, from studying biochemistry at University of Melbourne to his first job as a marine biologist to now as Special Projects Lead in Finance at OakNorth in London. While his path has been far from linear, he has always been guided by the question, "Where will I learn dthe most?" #careersinSTEM #mentoring #careersinmaths To arrange conversations like this for your children or students takes only a couple of minutes for you to arrange via our website - and is as simple as ordering a pizza from Domino Pizza.
