⚡ Great to see continued success amongst our Climate programme alumni! Christophe Williams, CEO of Naked Energy Ltd, was part of our first #climate cohort and recently raised series B funding to supercharge their growth in the UK, Europe and the US. 🌎 This will help in their continued work to help provide businesses and communities in becoming more energy-independent and save on carbon emissions! Sammy Fry
I am so excited to announce that Naked Energy has successfully closed the first stage of its series B, with £17 million direct investment! The round was led by E.ON (E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions), supported by Barclays (Sustainable Impact Capital) and existing investors. Naked Energy can now supercharge its growth in the UK, Europe and the US, helping businesses and communities become more energy-independent and save carbon emissions. We are so excited to have EON as a strategic investor, seeing the value in distributed energy to help balance the grid and accelerate the energy transition, particularly in the form of efficient solar heat and power for commercial and industrial customers. 🤝 It has been brilliant to be an official nominator for the The Earthshot Prize and see ENSO - 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalist , who have been through two #TechNation programmes, receive such great support, since they became finalists for the Clean Our Air category. 🌳 Gunnlaugur Erlendsson started ENSO with a mission to tackle the environmental impacts of tires, air and microplastic pollution. Through the Earthshot prize, ENSO will receive further technical support and access to their network of global partners to amplify their solution and impact. Gunnlaugur Erlendsson Sammy Fry
Nominators are at the heart of the Earthshot Prize. Each year, over 400 official Nominators from every region of the world seek out the most inspiring, inclusive, and impactful solutions to our five Earthshots, and submit them as nominations. Every solution they put forward represents a ground-breaking solution to repair our planet, with huge potential to scale around the world through scaling or replication. With thanks to our Nominators, from the last 4 years we now have a portfolio of nearly 4000 of the world's most exciting environmental solutions. 45 of which have become our Finalists, and 15 of which have been named #EarthshotPrize Winners. We asked the 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalists what they would like to say to their Nominators, and this is what they said..

One week into our new Labour government – what’s the #TechNation view? 🇬🇧 Labour have pledged to “kickstart economic growth” and the UK’s tech #scaleup community has a major role to play in this, fuelling growth and ensuring we continue to lead in areas such as #AI. 🦄 We’ve a lot to be proud of – the UK tech ecosystem was recently valued at $1.1 trillion, we’ve created c.170 tech unicorns in a decade – but more must be done to create the right conditions for growth if the UK is to maintain its status as a tech superpower. ⚡️ There is a great opportunity for the sector to work even more closely with the new government to increase efficiency and solve major societal issues. 🤔 So what does this mean in practice? Tech Nation members tell us the priorities should be: 1️⃣ Widening access to #capital – increasing investment into startups and R&D via methods such as the planned pension reforms which should open up the pools of capital available. 2️⃣ Supporting our strategically important sectors, across #AI, #climate and #health and ensuring proportionate regulation doesn’t hamper innovation. 3️⃣ Ensuring the UK is able to access top global talent is also a priority – both developing homegrown skills and being attractive to highly skilled migrants. 4️⃣ Applying digital and tech tools and capabilities nationwide to supercharge growth, particularly in areas such as the NHS. We’re pleased to see DSIT’s announcement this week around the bolstering of in-government AI and digital capabilities and creating a “modern digital government” is something we can help with. 🏛️ We look forward to fostering our relationship with the team at Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and with new Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, as well as Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds MP. #WeAreTechNation #UK #Tech #Innovation #Growth #Skills #Talent Carolyn Dawson | Brent Hoberman | Emily Miller | Ellie Steel | Marco De Novellis | Sammy Fry | Johnny M. | Chantelle Young | Rachel Gurney | Natasha Jones
