We're seeing an incredible demonstration of unity against the deplorable racist and Islamophobic violence in our communities. We stand in solidarity with those who took to the streets to protest against violence and hatred ✊ We are the majority, they are the few. #StandUpToRacism

“Peaceful protest is vital to democracy. It’s frightening that private companies are putting so much effort into preventing people from sounding the alarm, instead of intensifying efforts to build a greener, cleaner and fairer future. Friends of the Earth has filed an application with the European Court of Human Rights challenging the use of anti-protest injunctions in the UK."- Katie de Kauwe, Friends of the Earth lawyer. https://lnkd.in/e4punw8F

The UK is predicted to see annual heat-related deaths rise six-fold by the end of the century, with research from the UN suggesting that we'll see the world warm by 3C within this period. The elderly and poorer communities are the most at risk, highlighting once more how climate change is a social justice issue. We need to see bold commitments from governments across the globe to reduce emissions and protect those most vulnerable to these rising temperatures. https://lnkd.in/d3eKsfgf

Testing by the Environmental Agency of the River Medway in Kent has found that the water is polluted with chemicals thought to cause genetic defects in fish and cancer in humans. The presence of these toxins is thought to be from previous industrial pollution. Southern Water released nearly 600 million litres of sewage into the river in 2022. Polluters need to be held accountable. Demand the legal right to a healthy environment here: https://lnkd.in/ess-z8Ar https://lnkd.in/e3-NNDY5

As the world heats up climate breakdown is intensified. Methane emissions released from melting permafrost and warming tropical wetlands, in places such as the Amazon, contribute to our warming climate. But there's still time to take action 👇 https://lnkd.in/g8sSU-mZ

Energy debt is over £3bn, yet it's predicted that we'll see the quarterly energy price cap increase by 9% this October. We need a fast transition away from fossil fuels to renewable energy, so we can avoid higher energy bills and help the planet. https://lnkd.in/eeSqFH6u

🔥 15 national heat records have been broken since January, with climate change being strongly linked to this alarming trend. At least 10 countries have seen temperatures rise above 50C this year already 🥵 These high temperatures can bring intense heatwaves, extreme rainfall, droughts, sea-level rises and ocean heating. We need to see governments take bold action on reducing climate emissions, if we don't want to see new disastrous records being made. https://lnkd.in/dzhSVFXU
