  • Check out our latest blog, which provides a comprehensive update on the key takeaways from the February 2025 BNG Implementation Board meeting.   The update delves into focus areas for the next quarter, including establishing working groups to focus on the offsite market, small sites, and the integration of tech and AI. The blog also explains the crucial relationship between BNG and other evolving nature recovery policies, such as Local Nature Recovery Strategies, the Development and Nature Working Paper, and the Land Use Framework.   Some of the items discussed include:   - Strategic Working Groups: New groups are being formed to tackle specific aspects of BNG  - Baseline Consistency: Efforts are underway to provide training on baseline surveys - Policy Integration: Clarity on how BNG is being integrated with other national nature recovery policies   The intention is to publish a blog after each BNG Implementation Board meeting to update on the main focus areas for the next quarter and encourage participation where needed for specific activities.   Read the full update here: https://lnkd.in/eh3cpriD #BiodiversityNetGain #BNG #EnvironmentalPolicy #NatureRecovery #Sustainability #Ecology

  • We joined the team at Greencore Homes & SNRG on Monday, as part of our series of site visits that showcase best practice developments that go beyond current regulations. We witnessed first-hand Greencore Homes’ impressive 30,000 sq ft factory in Bicester, where they manufacture closed timber frame panels using natural low embodied carbon materials (timber, wood fibre and hemp/lime) and learned about their commitment to building Better Than Net Zero homes, with significantly reduced whole life carbon. We also learnt about SNRG smart community micro-grid system and how this reduces cost to developers, bills for consumers and impact on the grid.   Key learnings included:    - Greencore’s ‘better than net zero’ homes focus on whole life carbon (embodied and operational), using natural materials like timber frame, wood fibre insulation and hemp/lime, setting a new standard. - Their homes are fossil fuel-free, utilising renewable Solar PV energy, MVHR, ASHP, superior fabric performance, and triple glazing, designed to meet Passivhaus standards (targeting 35 kWh/m2 overall energy use, 15 kWh/m2 space heating), and achieving a low embodied carbon footprint of 200 kgCO2e/m2, including sequestration. - Their Biond panel system allows for efficient offsite construction, reducing build times and improving quality. - The collaboration with SNRG on smart micro-grids at their Hook Norton site demonstrated the power of community-focused energy solutions, with residents enjoying 15% lower energy cost savings and zero maintenance and replacement costs, compared to a conventional all electric PV development. - Microgrids can also reduce development connection loads, through an engineered electrical design approach with the DNO; this unlocks sites with grid constraint challenges. - Greencore designs according to the One Planet Living principles, prioritising high energy efficiency, low whole life carbon, natural materials, sustainability, health and wellbeing, biodiversity, and nature-friendliness. - At their award-winning development Springfield Meadows, Greencore’s homes sold at a premium sales price and faster sales rates, due, in part, to the market appeal of a sustainable home.    View this video for more information about the SNRG microgrid at Greencore’s Hook Norton site: www.tinyurl.com/3ckd7dh5 Thank you to Greencore Homes and SNRG for a valuable and informative visit.    #SustainableHousing #MMC #LowCarbon #SmartGrids #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #FutureHomesHub #GreencoreHomes #SNRG

  • We're pleased to share our Key Learnings Report: "Lessons from Delivering Future Homes Standard at Scale.” The sector understands the importance of a smooth transition to low-carbon heating solutions. The Hub’s Consumer Implementation Group conducted in-depth interviews with 20 leading homebuilders and developers who are at the forefront of implementing the Future Homes Standard with heat pump technology. The report delves into the critical aspects of the consumer journey, exploring every touchpoint and the level of information shared with homeowners. The aim? To share valuable lessons from those who are already delivering low-energy, all-electric homes at scale, meeting or exceeding the proposed Future Homes Standard, with a particular focus on the consumer journey. What does the report include? - Real-world insights: Compiled from deep-dive interviews with developers across private and affordable housing sectors, many of whom are mature in their use of heat pumps and PV. -Focus on the consumer: The research specifically examines the consumer interface with heat pumps, driven by the shift towards electrification in new homes. -Practical guidance: The report includes learning cards from each interview, best practice examples of information materials, and a clear breakdown of dos and don’ts. As part of the Future Homes Standard Implementation Plan, we've developed this resource to map the consumer journey, highlighting key interaction stages and learning outcomes. • Visiting Futurebuild today? Make a stop at Bioregional’s afternoon seminar, “Building with bio-based and circular materials,” where Sue Riddlestone OBE, a key voice on the Future Homes Hub Board, will be speaking. The seminar explores the need, and the opportunities, for increased use of bio-based materials and the design for circularity to reduce embodied carbon in our homes, providing practical case studies and a platform for Q&A. Sue will highlight the vital role of the Hub's Sector Net Zero Transition Plan. The Plan is a comprehensive, evolving framework designed to guide the new homes sector towards achieving net zero emissions. Its purpose is to provide a unified roadmap, offering long-term certainty and facilitating collaborative efforts between developers, the supply chain, government, and sector organisations. Ultimately, the plan fosters a coordinated approach, with an initial emissions reduction pathway and delivery plan, to accelerate the sector's transition to a sustainable future. The plan is due to launch next month, so keep an eye on our website and LinkedIn for more information. #Sustainability #NetZero #BioBasedMaterials #CircularEconomy #FutureHomesHub #BioRegional #Construction #SustainableConstruction #ClimateAction
