We have joined forces with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Mobility Care Solutions to provide vital e-vehicle health checks for our customers to ensure they are safe in their homes. The health checks were carried out at our customers’ homes in Lakeside Village on e-bikes, e-scooters and mobility scooters and the vehicles’ overall condition and electrical components were checked at the appointment. Great to see the progress at our Eskdene Rise development in Hetton-le-Hole 🎥🧱 Hear from Paul Green, Delivery Manager, who discusses how the sustainability measures used in our house types will not only sustain energy, but reduce the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere and save customers money on their energy bills. As part of Gentoo’s commitment to carbon reduction, the new homes will be built with sustainable technology featuring air source heat pumps, smart meters, photo-voltaic panels, full fill cavity wall insulation and electric vehicle charging points. Once complete, the new development will feature 86 new homes, including two, three and four-bedroom houses, two-bedroom bungalows and two-bedroom apartments. Residents from Houghton were delighted to receive a new bingo machine for our local community centre at Churchill Square. The bingo machine was kindly donated by our contractors Lovell Partnerships Ltd as part of their social value work with us to support local communities. Residents at the community centre get together every month for coffee mornings and said they were ‘excited’ to organise some bingo afternoons with the local community. Andrew Walsh, Project Manager at Lovell said: "On behalf of the Lovell Regeneration Team, we were delighted to be able to help Gentoo and the residents of the local community. It was great to meet everybody at the community centre and the cakes were delicious! Keep up the good work." #WeAreGentoo

On Monday, several of our partners, believe housing, Gentoo Group, and Karbon Homes attended the inaugural conference of the The Institute for Economic and Social Inclusion. We were delighted to be represented on a panel by Rachel Edmunds alongside other regional thought leaders. The panel explored how we can create pathways to employment, reduce poverty, and foster innovation for a sustainable and inclusive economy. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of making social inclusion a shared responsibility, the crucial role of communities and individuals with lived experience, and our commitment to valuing and embracing these contributions. We are grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continued collaboration.

We were recently contacted by Ambers Legacy, a charity that helps promote cervical cancer awareness and offers help and advice, for some support with promotional resources. The promotional materials were produced and printed by our print supplier, resource | sustainable creativity, as part of their social value commitment to our customers and communities. The resources will be essential in raising awareness of cervical cancer and the HPV vaccination, educating the public and dispelling myths. They have already been used at college events to educate students and lecturers and shared with the Immunisation Team covering all of Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham. Amber’s Legacy said: “We are so happy that our Cervical Screening, HPV and Smear Test banners and leaflets will be used to educate pupils and families around the North East. "I just wanted to thank you again for your very kind donation and it has certainly helped enormously with our campaigns and enabled us to give materials to educate and create awareness of Cervical Cancer, Smear tests and the HPV vaccine." A huge thank you to Asif Choudry and the resource | sustainable creativity team who were more than happy to support a wonderful charity doing amazing work. #WeAreGentoo #Partnership #SocialValue
