In the North East Housing Partnership, we believe that everyone should have a warm, comfortable home to call their own. With the increase in energy bills over the last few years adding to the cost-of-living crisis, and our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, the need to act on this has led the NEHP to include Net Zero as one our key four workstreams. All our partners are working on this, decarbonising their homes and supporting residents through colder months, but here are some of the highlights of the work that our partners have been doing over the past few months: believe housing has been carrying out one of the largest retrofit programmes in the North East and has published a case study from the 3,000th believe housing property to undergo home energy improvement works. Karbon Homes shared an article on Fuel Poverty Awareness Day highlighting tips that customers can use to keep their homes warm and promoting that a Retrofit Surveyor can visit homes to carry out a home energy health check. Gentoo Group has started work to improve the energy efficiency of over 700 homes across Sunderland as part of the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Wave 2:2 fund. Link: https://lnkd.in/gYBt8WcN. Livin Housing has been installing smart technology in 600 homes to reduce tenants' energy bills by up to 30% and improve unnecessary heat loss and energy use. Gateshead Council has teamed up with Citizens Advice Gateshead and other community partners to host a series of specialist energy roadshows across different locations in the borough over the winter period. There is a lot of work that has been going on to explore how we can achieve economies of scale and leverage more investment in retrofit programmes which we’ll be updating on over the next few months, and we remain committed to working collaboratively and supporting the wider work happening on net zero across the region.
