Our summer interns have officially begun their journey this week! 🌞 With an overwhelming response of 300 applications, the competition was fierce. This year's intern cohort is the largest we have ever had, and we are excited to connect with each of them and foster a fruitful learning experience. Our interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in various areas across the NMIS Group, including digital technology, machining, robotics, quality control, and metals research. We partnered with The Glasgow School of Art’s Working Space Live 2024 to showcase the STAC community and introduce STAC Jobs. The evening began with an introduction from Paul Wilson, who presented STAC and our various products: STAC Scale, STAC Jobs, STAC Invest, and TheBeyond. Following the introduction, we hosted a panel discussion featuring Greg Jackson from Sonos, Inc., Ellie Craig-McCourt from Gibson Robotics, Erin Reid from LU Innovations, Stefan Raue from Arceptive, and Maddy Cooper-Chessar from Solutions Driven, moderated by Gregor Aikman. The panel explored the value of creativity in the tech sector, the current job market, beneficial skills for job seekers, and tips for standing out in the market. Attendees then had the opportunity to visit demo booths set up by a few of our cohort companies. This allowed them to explore the products and engage with the founders directly. I'm excited to share that my research on using deep reinforcement learning to optimize search paths for search and rescue drones has been featured in an MIT Technical Review article titled "AI-directed drones could help find lost hikers faster." In this work, I explore how AI can significantly improve search times compared to traditional methods, potentially saving lives in real-world situations.
