With the 2025 International Women’s day taking place over the weekend, on the theme of ‘Accelerate Action’, our thoughts have turned to women in the construction industry – a traditionally male dominated sector. Although women make up 50.8% of the population, only 24.6% of workers in the industry are female. Today, our parent company wienerberger UK hosted a seminar entitled ‘International Women’s Day – Let’s talk fairness, inclusion and respect’ where diversity advocate Dana James-Edwards gave a brilliant talk about FIR (fairness, inclusion and respect) initiatives in the construction and built environment sector. Numbers in the sector have improved thanks to drives in 2022 from the Construction Industry Training Board - but more work needs to happen to make sure women stay in the industry (45.7% have left by the age of 34) and to make sure they reach boards and senior leadership teams.  Thank you to the Wienerberger Together team for arranging the talk and here's to women working in the construction industry and all those trying to bring about change and encourage more to enter the sector. #internationalwomensday #ukconstruction #AccelerateAction #womeninconstruction #FIR

Our colleagues Tracey Lunday and Philip Johnstone are at the APSE Solutions Building and Housing seminar at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel for the next two days.
