We like our ‘Best Foodvenience Store in the World’ competition judges to spend as much as time as possible visiting the contenders competing in this prestigious global contest. Dan, Frank and Christian have all now visited this super new Valora Group Avec format in Zurich, Switzerland. This is a very significant and important foodvenience store for a very big global operator. It’s all about food, which forms the vast majority of sales. Three big takeaways (and they’ll be a lot more when the detailed online profiles are published on our site. ✅ A visit (and Dan’s pics) in the lunchtime rush shows this store is delivering for its young demographic. And delivering big, selling hundreds of meals a day in student term time. ✅Another big win is the commitment to fresh, today. Sandwiches are made in the kitchen for that day from 6am. ✅And Tech: Self order screens, self checkout screens and a very usable app which allows customers to access the store on Sundays when Swiss Trading law prevents any staff working on site. Good Sunday sales, no staff costs. The opportunity for GenAI in convenience is here for retailers of all shapes and sizes to take. GenAI adoption has increased dramatically in the last 6-9 months. Two thirds of organisations now use it somewhere.
