Global Schools Forum

Non-profit Organizations

We are a collaborative community of non-state organisations working to improve education outcomes for children.

About us

Global Schools Forum is a collaborative community, innovation accelerator, and partnership builder for non-state organisations working to improve education at scale for underserved children in low- and middle-income countries.  Since our establishment in 2017, we’ve grown our community to 123 organisations spanning 60 countries, collectively running or supporting over 252,772 schools and centres and providing education to well over 22.4 million children. Our members are standalone schools; a diverse set of school networks working within or across countries; or organisations providing core support services to non-state schools.  Our work currently covers three core areas:   Growing a global, interconnected learning community. We are continuously expanding our community of mission-aligned, non-state organisations across Asia, Africa, and South America. We provide opportunities for our community of leaders to collaborate and learn from each other, as they confront shared operational and pedagogical challenges. Based on the needs and challenges of the community, we curate an annual programme of events and communities of practice.    Testing promising approaches and diffusing evidence. We fund and support education entrepreneurs to develop, test and scale promising education approaches. We generate and share evidence on ‘what works’ in education and what makes organisations more effective.    Partnering strategically to shape policy and scale solutions. We enable our community to engage in the strengthening of education systems by engaging in global policy processes, and with support in forging partnerships with other organisations, funders, and policymakers.

🌍📚 Last week at the Educate Hub during UNGA and Climate Week, I had the privilege of facilitating engaging dynamic discussions with 500+ leaders at Atlassian's HQ. The exchange of ideas was nothing short of electrifying and energizing our collective vision for change in global education. Together, we’ve laid the groundwork for transformative progress, and I’m eager to share the key takeaways from our collaboration: 1. 🌱 Education is a critical planetary strategy for climate adaptation and mitigation. We must position teaching as a "green job"—the foundation for all future green careers. 2. 👩🏫 Teacher agency is paramount. Numerous teacher-led innovations are addressing climate resilience and sustainable development. We need to amplify these voices rather than starting from scratch. 3. 🤝 Cross-sector learning is crucial. The tech and social sectors have much to teach each other about developing, deploying, and using AI ethically and responsibly in education. Peer-to-peer knowledge exchange within the social sector can also accelerate AI adoption. 4. 🌐 Global knowledge sharing is vital but underinvested. Only 3% of official funding for education goes to global public goods. We must change this to accelerate progress toward SDG4. 5. 🌉 We must embrace a "YES AND" approach— supporting locally led organizations and investing in global networks for learning and knowledge sharing in education. 6. 🤖 AI offers immense potential but must be approached thoughtfully. It's not the tools that revolutionize education; it's how we use them to promote equity and empowerment. 7. 🔄 Context matters in innovative funding approaches. While not a universal solution, innovative finance can drive significant impact in education and skilling at scale when tailored to specific stages of development and regional needs. As I reflect on our discussions, I’m acutely aware of the urgency of our shared mission. We’re not merely talking about education; we’re actively shaping the future of our planet. The convergence of climate, education, and technology presents us with unparalleled opportunities to equip marginalized young people for an unpredictable future. However, this also necessitates inclusive strategies to ensure that no one is left behind. As leaders in philanthropy, we hold a unique position. We have the power to catalyze change, embrace risks, and drive progress in ways that traditional funding sources often cannot. I invite fellow leaders in education, social impact, and philanthropy to join me in this pursuit. Let’s connect to explore how we can collaboratively accelerate progress toward the SDGs! #UNGA #ClimateWeek #SDG4 #SDG13 #Philanthropy #EdTech #InnovativeFinance I can’t possibly tag everyone, but I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who attended! Your contributions made the discussions truly inspiring. A special shout out to Euan Wilmshurst.
