PEAS is transforming education across sub-Saharan Africa. Each year we support 200,000 young people, in marginalised communities across Uganda, Zambia, and Ghana.
We work hand in hand with governments so all young people can learn in a safe, inclusive environment. We draw on 16 years practical experience running one of the largest, not-for-profit secondary school networks in sub-Saharan Africa.
Our award-winning programmes are designed and delivered by Africans for Africans. Evidence shows our students come from poorer households and make faster learning progress. And our girls are more confident and better equipped for life after school.

PEAS Uganda's Country Director, Senkasi Henry, is in Paris to receive the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. The award honours outstanding and innovative contributions to advance girls’ and women’s education, and celebrates PEAS' efforts to empower thousands of marginalised girls across Uganda.

Over the past two months, UNESCO heard from more than 100 girls from around the world about their vision for the future of education.
Their answer?
A future with more books and more computers, more playgrounds and more personalized learning, more support and more mentors.
A future where they feel accepted, safe, and valued.
Their voices remind us that 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. They are reimagining how we live, learn, and advocate for justice and equality in our world. They are shaping the future of #EducationForAll.
Clear progress has been made. The gender gap in access to schooling has reached close to zero globally. But in many contexts, progress in achieving gender equality by 2030 has stalled – or even gone backwards. No country is currently on track, and in fact, 40 per cent of countries are less gender-equal today than they were in 2019, according to Equal Measures 2030.
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.
Last evening, UNESCO was pleased to spotlight two initiatives that are unlocking the transformative power of education through the 𝗨𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗢 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀’ 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) in Uganda and the CAMFED - Campaign for Female Education in Zambia. I extend my warm congratulations to these two laureates on their well-deserved awards.
UNESCO is grateful to the People’s Republic of #China for their long-lasting support to this Prize.
As part of this partnership, we were also pleased to launch, this evening, a new initiative with Beijing Normal University to enhance girls’ digital skills in Ghana and Tanzania.
These programmes continue to push so that every girl – wherever she is born, and regardless of the circumstances she faces – has the right to a quality education, to a voice, and to a future full of possibility.

It’s #WorldTeachersDay, a day for celebrating our teachers as the spark for change in students' lives.
At PEAS, we believe that every young person can succeed if they are given the right support. We know that our teachers are best placed to provide this support. They know their students and school community best, and can provide support where it's needed the most.
We empower our teachers by providing support and protecting school-level #autonomy. We equip them with the #skills and #confidence to understand and meet their students’ needs and drive meaningful change in the classroom.
And the results speak for themselves. That’s why we’re now taking our proven approach to teacher training colleges, so that new teachers can step into the classroom with the practical tools and confidence to teach effectively from the start.

Safeguarding and child protection have been at the heart of our work at PEAS for the past 15 years.
We continually refine and strengthen our approach, and we actively seek opportunities to share our knowledge and learn from others.
Recently, PEAS participated in Global Schools Forum’s Community of Practice on #ChildSafeguarding. It was a great platform for collaboration, and we were excited to share our approach and exchange insights with partners, including Enko Education.

Together, the Costa Foundation and PEAS are transforming lives by partnering to roll out innovative solutions that increase access to education.
In Uganda and Zambia, students face long and potentially dangerous journeys—up to 10km just to get to school, with girls often feeling unsafe.
That’s why Costa Foundation and PEAS teamed up with World Bicycle Relief (WBR) in Zambia to provide bikes, giving students the freedom and confidence to get to school safely and boost attendance.
