We are proud of our strong partnership with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue and are always pleased to assist with their training exercises #CommunitySafety
Whilst in Gloucester this week I took advantage to 'volunteer' to assist Gloucester City Homes Compliance Manager Tara Jones as we staged a training exercise at our 1 and only Highrise Building 'Clapham Court' which we are slowing moving customers out off as we look to regenerate the area. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue staged an evacuation of the building after simulating a fire on the 8th floor. 6 Fire Crews attended all from different stations Part of my volunteering role was to be on the 9th floor and await to be rescued. I was in a dark and cold room for over an hour, I could hear the fire service work their way up through the floors. On some occasions this went quiet and even though I wasn't in any danger I felt that they had forgotten me. I was eventually rescued and was escorted down the 9 floors where the crew were waiting to check me over. For me personally it was a great experience but also a sobering one as you immediately think of the Grenfell tragedy and all those people who stayed put waiting to be rescued. It does make you appreciate more the work that the fire crews do up and down the country keeping people safe and training exercises like this are vital to provide as close to real life situations as possible. Really pleased Gloucester City Homes could help with this. I cannot forget a special mention for Tara Jones GCH's very own Compliance Manager. Excellent work and dedication throughout the various evenings where you have put in a lot of time and effort to support this. #fireandrescue #teamwork #socialhousing #fire #partnership #training
