Our business strategy objective to create a culture which empowers our people includes a commitment to invest in the development of our colleagues - working with them to build their capability and skills. We’ve worked with our leaders and PA Consulting to develop our GSA Leadership Development Programme which is just one part of our wider commitment to empower colleagues by helping them gain the skills, knowledge and expertise they need to do a great job for our customers. All our leaders will complete our Leadership Development Programme over the next two years, and we’ve had over 130 leaders take part in the programme since its launch in January this year.

In an uplifting display of community collaboration, staff from Morro Partnerships, our supply chain partner, recently spent a day at Chapter House assisting with the first phase of a garden tidy-up. The team dedicated their time and resources to build planters for the scheme, all part of their social value commitments related to our Swan Lane development in West Bromwich. Partnerships like these can make a real difference and the residents at Chapter House will benefit from these changes for years to come, thanks to the commitment and hard work of teams like Morro. The efforts at Chapter House are part of our broader initiative linked to our Swan Lane development where Morro Partnerships is constructing 147 homes for affordable and social rent. In a response to the housing crisis, the UK Labour Government have set a target to deliver 1.5 million homes over the next three years. We are going to need to look at innovative ways to build new homes if we want to scale up construction. LoCaL Homes is our innovative off-site manufacturing facility located in #Walsall. Collaborating with developers, housing providers, and local authorities, they create high-quality, energy-efficient, low-carbon homes throughout the UK. With the bulk of their work taking place in a factory, they reduce waste on site, deliver quicker build times and reduce the embodied carbon of every new development they’re involved in. Delivering new homes 30-40% quicker than traditional construction, we think this is the future of the construction industry. If you’d like to find out more about LoCaL Homes and how they could help your next project visit: Localhomes.co.uk

Last week our Chief Executive, Ruth Cooke, attended the launch of the Homes for the West Midlands Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) which will help drive the construction of new social and affordable homes. West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker convened the launch, hosted at our LoCaL Homes factory in Walsall. The LLP will see five housing associations - Bromford, Citizen Housing, GreenSquareAccord, Midland Heart, and whg work with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) on ways to accelerate delivery of the region’s affordable housing ambitions. The Mayor has made housing, and in particular the construction of thousands more social and affordable homes, one of his four key priorities along with jobs, economic growth and better transport. It was great to welcome Redditch MP, Chris Bloore, recently to our affordable homes scheme which is transforming the site of a disused church in Winyates. The new housing scheme, known as St Gregory’s in recognition of the catholic church which once stood on the site, will provide a total of 25 new homes once construction is complete. The development is being built by our in-house construction services team and will have 12 homes available for social rent and a further 13 homes available under shared ownership.
