Powering Devices With Light! 💡 This unique material allows devices to be charged with light from both indoor and outdoor light sources. Removing the need for disposable batteries. Share this video if you hope this material will help reduce our dependence on batteries! The unique material is called Powerfoyle, a groundbreaking solar cell material made in Sweden that is now available for purchase! In their factory the Exeger team showed us how the cells are customisable, making it great for a variety of items. It can even be installed into fabrics, such as this bag that doubles up as a charging case! Powerfolye is based on the natural processes of photosynthesis using a titanium dioxide layer covered with a light absorbing dye. These materials are abundantly available and the production factory is right by the city of Stockholm as it produces no toxic waste. Film created by Ben Brown and Ciara Doyle from Going Green Media. Thank you to Alexandre Faust and the Exeger team for having us! #renewableenergy #sustainable

This is an Earthship Village in the Netherlands🇳🇱 Imagine a world with more communities like this! These homes use passive solar design to stay warm in the winter, have solar panels for electricity, rainwater collection systems for water, and composting toilets! It took over 100,000 hours of work to build! Thank you to Paul, one of the original residents at Aardehuis, for kindly inviting us into his home. The community and over 2,000 volunteers came together to make this place possible. It features 23 homes made from a blend of earth, straw, wood, and recycled materials like car tires and glass bottles. The entire village has fruit trees to graze on as you walk around, and the main community garden is where the majority of the crops are grown. This way of living is not just great for its human residents, it also protects and supports the local ecosystem. Of course, creating a place like this didn’t come without its challenges. Navigating permits and adhering to building codes was incredibly challenging, but the community was resilient… and it paid off! Share this video if you wish there were more communities like this around the world! 💚 Film created by Ben Brown & Ciara Doyle from Going Green Media. #gogreen #ecodesign #goinggreen #nature #sustainability #eco #sustainable #earth #sustainabledesign #design

CAR-FREE VILLAGE IN THE NETHERLANDS 🏡 We recently visited the small village of Giethoorn. With no roads, the best way to get around is by electric boat! These electric boats are almost silent and keep the waterways pristine. The 2,600 human residents and Golden retrievers can move around using the 176 bridges and bike paths. Share this video if you wish more neighbourhoods could reduce their dependence on cars 🚗 With no cars in the village, the air is cleaner and there is no noise pollution, making it a truly peaceful place to live. The village of Giethoorn is located by the De Weerribben-Wieden National Park which is home to a diverse array of wildlife. This is a great example of how humans can live in harmony with nature. If you are going to visit please be respectful of the residents and avoid peak seasons as we’ve heard it can get overcrowded. Film created by Ben Brown and Ciara Doyle from Going Green Media. Big thank you to Artan Ibishi for the drone shot 📸 Netherlands, Giethoorn village, Giethoorn Hospitality, Agri & Tourism. #gogreen #ecodesign #goinggreen #nature #sustainability #eco #sustainable #earth #sustainabledesign #design

What a pleasure it was to go visit the incredible Minitopia community outside of Den Bosch in the Netherlands! Communities like these reinforce our belief that alternative ways of living are not just possible, but can also be preferable! From a former refuse site, to a biodiverse community of unique, creative home and residents, Minitopia is just one of many eco-communities around the world doing something differently for the benefit of all!

What if you could build your own home for €5000 using sustainable materials? 🏡 Welcome to Minitopia a sustainable community of 30 tiny homes outside of Den Bosch in the Netherlands. Each home here is a little piece of art and shows the unique personality of each of the owners. It shows that sustainable living can be done in an extremely affordable way – some of these homes were built for just €5000 😮 There are several Minitopia projects across the Netherlands all aiming to give people the freedom to design and build their own homes with eco-friendly materials, and to establish a community of their own. This location in particular has a fascinating story as it was built on an old refuse site for the town of Den Bosch. Now the site is thriving with lots of greenery, clean drinking water, wildlife, and beautiful homes. It is truly inspiring to see how creativity and sustainability can come together in such a beautiful way. Share this video if you wish projects like this could exist all over the world! Video by Ben Brown & Ciara Doyle from Going Green Media. Thank you Nina Eijkhout for arranging our visit 💚 #gogreen #ecodesign #goinggreen #nature #sustainability #eco #sustainable #earth #architecture #sustainabledesign #design #sustainablearchitecture

Thank you to The Earthshot Prize for hosting us last week at the Stories of Impact event during #LondonClimateActionWeek, highlighting the progress of Earthshot Finalists and their action partners, and celebrating new collaborations taking place within the Earthshot Prize community! It was incredibly inspiring to hear both Finalists' insights on their evolution and progress since winning the Earthshot, as well as to witness the passion for supporting and accelerating the impact of those helping our planet from the Earthshot Prize leadership and trustees HRH The Prince of Wales, Hannah Jones, and 'Tokunboh Ishmael, CFA. Here's to celebrating the change makers! Going Green Media Ben Brown

The largest wildlife bridge in the world 🌎 This is the Zanderij Crailoo Nature Bridge in the Netherlands! Its position, stretching a half-mile over a busy highway and railroad, allows local wildlife to cross over safely! It is currently the world’s largest wildlife crossing, however, a bigger one is expected to be completed outside of Los Angeles, California in 2026. It is estimated that over 350 million animals in the United States, and over 194 million birds and 29 million mammals across Europe are killed by traffic every YEAR! As our cities and countries become more densely populated, our roadways, waterways, and rail networks will need to continue to expand too; however, this CAN and MUST be done in a responsible, earth-conscious way. Wildlife bridges have countless benefits for both animals and humans in that they help to restore migration paths for animals, resolve issues caused by habitat fragmentation, reconnect ecosystems, provide more green spaces to urbanised areas, and ultimately reduce human-wildlife collisions. In addition to land bridges, some incredible marine and subterranean bridges exist across the world, allowing diverse species to pass over, under, or through these shared spaces. In addition to public awareness, our legislators have a huge part to play in ensuring that common-sense innovations and designs like these are integrated as non-negotiables into our society. In the US, for example, legislation on wildlife crossings has only recently been passed under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, whereby $350 million was set aside for the Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program, which over five years will fund state and federal agencies and tribal nations to evaluate the need for/build wildlife crossings in their respective areas. The footpath we took runs alongside the wildlife bridge, and we loved knowing that the diverse species in the area had their own safe space to cross, just like us! Share this video if you want to see more of these wildlife bridges all over the world! BUBBLES FIGHTING POLLUTION! 🫧 We first talked about The Great Bubble Barrier a few years ago, and upon visiting Amsterdam this week, we wanted to swing by and check on their progress! With now five locations across the Netherlands, these Bubble Barriers have a catch rate of 86% of floating plastic pollution in a waterway, and can even catch microplastics as small as 1 millimetre! Limiting plastic production and use is of course the best way to stop plastic from reaching our oceans, but these Bubble Barriers offer a great solution for cleaning up the waterways of bustling cities. They are also safe for fish migration, working to not disrupt marine ecosystems. Most species of fish will pass through the bubbles or take a short time before they pass it, but The Great Bubble Barrier nevertheless implement a fish passage in each design under the trash collection system. With every new project, the local ecological impact of a Bubble Barrier is carefully considered in collaboration with ecologists, too! We hope that we can start to see these pop up everywhere soon, and let us know in the comments if you do too! Share this video if you want to see less waste going into our oceans. Thank you to Anne Marieke Eveleens, Francis Zoet, Judith de Waard, and the entire Great Bubble Barrier team for the incredible work you’re doing!
