Time-based energy matching should be all or nothing. Anything less is greenwash. Good Energy has always only offered renewable tariffs, because not doing so leads to 'green-shuffle' — fudging the numbers so some customers' power gets greener while others gets browner. Ultimately making no difference to the grid. A similar principle applies in time-based matching, or carbon free energy (CFE). But several suppliers are now promising CFE to select customers with cherry picked generators, undermining its key purpose. Read more about why time-matching should be applied at a supplier level in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/e3bATQti #greenwashing #carbonfreeenergy #247cfe #timebasedenergy #renewable #renewables #renewableelectricity #cfe

Very disappointing that a roll back on plans to require solar on new builds is being considered. As Friends of the Earth's Head of Policy Mike Childs says: "Solar panels are cheap, cut energy bills and emissions, and contribute to meeting the UK’s climate targets." We back the #sunshinebill to mandate solar as part of the Future Homes Standard. #solarpower #newbuilds #futurehomesstandard #solar #renewableelectricity
Plan to put solar panels on all new English homes could be scrapped

Another inspiring day at Blue Earth Summit. On the future of environmentalism, the panel discussed the tension between older and younger people. Youth activist Dominique P. said: “On the interhenerational challenge, young people are often seen as those we are handing the baton too. When in fact there is so much we can learn from each other.” In his interview Tony's Chocolonely Chief Douglas Lamont talked about Tony’s Open Chain. “You only change the whole industry by working with others. We started out by ourselves, which is why we’re called Tony’s Chocolonely. But now are feeling less lonely.” On the future of B Corp, John Brown, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce Business Partners said: “For people who will never buy from a B Corp, we need to be relevant to them. As an example I want to hear workers on a construction site say this B Corp movement is great because they’ve improved working standards for us.” Nick Hounsfield, founder of our partners The Wave spoke about being a founder. “To find investment you build a vision so compelling that they don’t want to say no.” And in Geetie and Guy Singh-Watson’s interview, Geetie said: “We need legislation Legislation around greenwashing. Just tell the truth! It’s so basic.” #blueearthsummit #sustainability #purposeledbusiness

Deborah Meaden is positive about businesses powering sustainability where politics can’t. A few soundbites from her interview with Hannah Mcinnes at Blue Earth Summit this afternoon: “Even those businesses which don’t care about sustainability, they are beginning to recognise that their customers do. “There is not a business that comes into Dragons Den now that doesn’t say ‘these are my ethical credentials, these are my sustainable credentials’. “When businesses come into Dragons Den and say they are a B Corp, it tells me they intend to get it right.” #sustainablebusiness #purposeledbusiness #sustainability #peopleplanetprofit #bcorp B Lab UK

Some superb soundbites from the morning at #BlueEarthSummit day one: Environmentalist Tony Juniper CBE: “A company can consider is it here to generate returns alone? Or is it explicitly here to benefit society and the environment, and profit is a means to that?” Danielle Mulder, Group Director of Sustainability, BBC: “There’s a real problem with climate disinformation. I would argue the BBC is more relevant today than ever, when you really need trusted news.” Good Energy’s CEO, Nigel Pocklington: “Appetite for cleaner energy is there, the role for government should be to level the playing field. You shouldn’t be able to buy a tariff that’s labelled as green when it isn’t.” Sian Sutherland, Founder, A Plastic Planet: “Don’t ban plastic, but increase the cost. Plastic’s true cost, factoring in it’s environmental impact, is 100x how it is represented on the market.” Blue Earth Summit #regenerative #renewables #purposeledbusiness
